Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

For me it was....it sounds great, but it feels utterly amazing, I want to be playing this bass, I'll mod it in the hope of finding the perfect bass. I also sometimes play in a room where the hum was a problem and I wanted it gone. Edit. I still toy with the idea of putting an MM in place of the...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I have a BBP35, sold my other P basses after a few gigs with it, it's most definitely my main. I don't find it that versatile soundwise. If you like the slightly scooped JJ sound, the BBP wont do it that well. I just set up my amp in the home studio and went through all my basses, jazz, streamer...

Yamaha BBP Players - Talk To Me About Hum

Yep the bridge is single coil. It will hum. Only a real problem in bad rooms, but one rooms I play is particularly bad, and there I ran only the split (which was fine cos the BBP absolutely kills it as a P bass...I sold my other Ps after gigging the BBP). The bass is so good and the hum bothered...

I have a problem (?) with string length. Help?

I used low riders for many years. They're great! Pretty sure they all did that, never caused an issue for me.

Does the adoration of the Precision bass

I avoided P basses for many years. Then I got one, and 'got it'. Then I got some more Fender Ps. Then I got rid of them all and now my split pickup go to is a Yamaha BBP. I regard it as a P bass, just a bit better than a Fender P IMO. I adore the split pickup sound for certain things, and if I...

Can I be happy with a Jazz?

The only way to know is to try. For a long time I thought I would like to play a J. Have been through a few (Fenders), still have one, never play it. For a long time I thought I would not play a P. Have been through a few (Fenders). My main is now a passive Yamaha PJ (basically a P with extra)...

Routing/chiseling under a pickguard for new pickup cavity?

I did similar recently (not as much wood to remove as the OP), and after scouring the internet, researching drill bits and presses, buying a dremel router bit etc etc..... I used an old (but sharp) chisel. Worked out great.

    Aguilar or Mesa Subway D-800

I've not tried the mesa, but had an AG700. I thought it was awesome, outrageously powerful and super clean, but for me the 'thickness' of the bottom end and low mids (with a berg 212) was both awe (and headache) inspiring, and also too much for me. I ended up with a berg B|amp that has a...

Rank these 3: “go for it”, “maybe”, “nah”

Correct, I edited just before you posted.

Rank these 3: “go for it”, “maybe”, “nah”

I have the Sire P7 in ash. It was my first serious attempt at getting rid of my Ps. It nearly cut it. The neck is particularly good. For me the pickups were the weakness in seeking a real P replacement (but I'm very picky). I have a Squier which is fine but compared to the Sire, I wouldn't...

Poll: Who's played New Year's Eve in the last 5 years, and was it for more pay than a regular gig?

I used to (10 years ago) expect 3x pay for NYE and wouldn't accept anything less. Now I'm happy with 2x if the gig is reasonably straight foward. The only one I have missed is 2020.

    Taking my bass oversea

I use an SKB bass safe, modified (bottom padding removed) to take my mono vertigo gig bag (which has huge amounts of rubber padding at the bottom). It's overkill no doubt but confidence inspiring, and easy to lug around (the bass safe is pretty light and has wheels). I would not fly with only...

    Favorite bargain basses lately

Can't go past Yamaha for quality and value at all price points.

Why do so many players love flats?

I like both, but all my gigging basses have flats. I like the longevity and find they sit more consistently in a mix.
