What do you in particularly like about playing 5 string basses?

I really really want to try one, though they are tough to find in my area. I'm attracted to the extra fingering possibilities as well as by lesser string spacing (on a lot of 5 strings seems to use 16.5mm). Whenever I try to do «chordal stuff» (on 4 strings with 19mm string spacing) I feel like...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

I don't always follow the rules, I even fail the metric some times ;) I try to play existing music to keep my practice «grounded». After decades of guitars, I skipped a lot of fundamentals, always pursued the wrong goals or aimed at unreachable ones, etc. I can't play all the part of a song I...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

I wish too hence why I overthink it ;)

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

That is ultimately what I'm concerned about. I learn notes, keys, etc but ultimately I use patterns and intervals the most. There other ways to look at it for sure but changing ways is tough and doing it while playing is tougher. I think that muscle/guitar memory kicks in without me noticing...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

Never tried. Once I got my bass, I toyed a little with EACE which was fun, never tried that. I shortly stop as I wanted to play a pretty traditional set of songs and got to use something std and proven. What I just wrote is at odd with the whole thread but— it could because of decades of guitar...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

What is your point about «fake» 4/4, actual 2/2 that written and even «considered» as 4/4 for the sake of practicalities ? XO

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

That is the weird part, it seems to work for me and I'm surprised by the little impact it has on songs I know (pop/rock mostly) compare to the benefits. I feel like something must off and I don't see it. I dislike altering my tuning, learning a new string (even though I'm familiar with the...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

    1) Sure it ain't, not what I was trying to convey. Actually I hesitate to shift «for good» as for what I do, the G string as it is does not bother me. It is more than when I don't play groove tuning it a semitone down does marvel for triads and some fingering with few downside. . 2) You are...

    Are All-Fourth tunings overrated ?

Hi all, Pretty new here. I've been playing bass for 1 year and a half. I mostly wasted decades going at the guitar in all the possible ways… or close. I like bass in many ways, it finally allowed me to set a proper foundation to my musical adventure. So far, I own only one bass, tuned...

    The Fifths Tuning Club

I just tried DACE and EACE again. I did not like it after a year of extensive all fourth playing. It is too different for me from std bass and guitar tuning, I guess and whereas I toyed with it all 5th is too. I found something closer to «all 4th» that I enjoy though I won't pollute that thread...

    The Fifths Tuning Club

Hi, random question. I shifted from guitar to bass more than a year and half ago, and damned was I late doing so… Anyway, I've only one JB for now, but I'm wandering about having either a 5er or another bass meant to be experimented on — tuning wise— the limit being how expansive the strings...
