Is anyone playing current Top 40?

My current band does a handful of Maroon 5/Bruno Mars and they are by far the best songs in our set in terms of crowd response/participation.

    I provided a backline....

Coming from the other side of this, I used to play in a band that shared a bill with another band that always provided backline. IIRC, it was a pair of MarkBass 4x10s stacked together. Having been an Ampeg SVT guy myself at the time, I absolutely hated the tone I was getting. I get it though...

    Do You Hate Your Playlist?

I don't hate my band's playlist, but I'm always looking to improve it. We started as a 90's rock cover band, and frankly, nobody coming out wants to hear Bush and STP. We've been slowly transitioning to a more pop-oriented setlist, including some new-ish country tunes. Packs the floor. I'm...

ANy reason NOT to run everything through FOH?

I'm a big advocate for everything through the PA. I'm also lucky enough to be in a situation where we have a dedicate FOH guy and that I use a DI and in-ears live (no more amp!). That said, neither way is the right or wrong way. Do what works for you and your band.

It's a new high-tech world in band management

Ha! I wish my band were on the cutting edge of tech. Our PA system is way too massive and entirely analog. Works like a charm though.

How early do you get to a gig?

It’s always 3 hours for me. I handle most of the PA setup and lights. It’s more than I need, but I also like to have some time to hang and talk to people before the show starts.

Why are Ampeg SVTs so popular?

I play an SVT/810 99% of the time. I don't mind hauling it in and out and I don't have any G.A.S. when it comes to amps.

Sound guy making making support bands sound worse

Are you referring to large arena/amphitheater concerts or a local gig at a small bar/venue? With the former, I have definitely heard an improvement of the mix with each act. Some openers only get a limited amount of channels depending on the console being used.

I just watched a band fight play out on Facebook

This doesn't surprise me one bit. In my experience the heavier the band, the nicer they are. It's those pop/punk folks that will turn out to be douches. Not all, but some.

Band Member Intros - Yes or No?

My singer does the same, during the bridge of the last song. Keeps it short and sweet and there's no showboating.

    Live stream rehearsal

A bunch of bands use StageIt nowadays as well. Granted they're well known bands that are actually putting on a show (not rehearsal) and you have to pay to watch it.

    Live stream rehearsal

It's a social media age we live in now, and frankly I think not doing it can be a detriment. I am not of the opinion to broadcast an entire rehearsal...that's overkill. It is however prudent to broadcast a few tunes...perfect or not. People love getting a peek behind the curtain and eat that...

Promo giveaways for a cover band

What about custom printed sunglasses? I've seen other bands do this with pretty good success.

Have You Ever Left a Successful Band?

I left my previous original band about 6 1/2 years ago. I was fresh out of college at the time and was more concerned with making money vs. making music.
