The nut is all good, got the tech to cut a new one Might struggle to use a size larger with the bridge but will see if that might work, otherwise will get a tech to take a look

Problem is flipping it left - it's slightly sloped so you have the same problem as the standard Thunderbird nut where the point of contact is wrong. Basically flipping a bass left seems to require a fresh nut. Honestly starting from scratch I would have just paid more for a left-handed...

Updating on Vintage Pro I was flipping a while back. Basically turned out that: - The standard Tusq nut they sell online wouldn't do the job due to how it's shaped - The saddle nuts were actually glued on to the screws So basically I got a luthier to do it. Cost a bit but did a good job, works...

Replaced the nut with a pre-slotted TUSQ XL, it fits very well after a little sanding, although I'm unsure about the height as it turned out to be slightly sloped (not as much as the stock nut but enough that wonder if it'll work). It was a good lesson in nut removal and maintenance regardless...

Thanks, it seems like this one might do the job with a little filing Model 1238-60 Nut Slotted L37.90mm (Select Material) If I can get something to file it down and borrow the girlfriend's hairdryer to loosen the glue it might work

Went to the luthier today and got a pretty firm 'no' about flipping the Epi Vintage Pro, due to - String length (he claimed the E string wouldn't reach the tuner as strings aren't uniform length - when I checked it with a set of Ernie Ball flats I realised he was mistaken on this, the strings...

Thanks for the advice. It seems to be the clover key itself that's loose, as if the hole is very slightly too big for the screw, but I'll ask the luthier to assess it. Hopefully just a case of tightening something up rather than needing a replacement t-bird.

Bought the Vintage Pro today, thanks for all the advice everyone. Going to get it to the Luthier tomorrow to flip it. Only issue I've noticed after tuning it up is that the E tuner is a little loose, so it rattles on an open string. Would have called it up in the shop but it only became...

Thank you for the thorough response, that's exactly what I was looking for! I'll probably be going with a set of the higher-gauge Ernie Ball flats (the 55-110 most likely) so with any luck they should do the job. I'll ask the luthier how much a new nut would cost if he had to change it out. In...

Hi all, I'm considering getting a Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro, tried it out in one of the stores here and immediately fell in love with the sound. I'm a left-handed player and it's a right-handed bass, so I'll need to flip it. The strap button, lead socket and controls shouldn't need any...
