An I'd love that Mesa Boogie TT800.
I settled on the Hartke LX5500 with 3 12AX7's in the tube preamp. One reason is I'm a brokea** mo-fo. The other is my cab has a peak of 600 watts . Lastly I'm not playing Madison Square Garden anytime soon lol . That being said NGD is NGD and I can't wait until it gets here woohoo !
Never had a problem with anything Hartke. Used to have a cab that sounded great (should have kept it) and a combo that was a great little amp.

So when I Re-tubed my Peavey Classic 30 guitar amp I went with Tung-Sol 12AX7 preamp tubes. Like em. What about a Bass Preamp ? Any guidance on the 12AX7's for a Bass Amp ? I know, same valve but just curious as to favorites and why ?
About 15 yrs ago I went through several pre tubes in search of a warmer sound with an old SWR head. There were slight differences between them, some a little more and some not so much. I'm sorry but I don't recall now which I prefered. JJs sounded good as I recall. Have them in one of my Ampeg heads. Tung-Sol should be pretty good. But others can hopefully provide better and more recent info.

I was too busy with the Bong show to be watching the Gong show hehe
Most of the audience and some of the panelists were probably in that state too. That show was must see TV in my dorm Freshman year.

Sorry, I had a brain freeze. 12AT7s are what ship in the TT800. 12AU7s are an alternative, giving different results depending on which of the 3 stages they’re installed in. Mesa does not recommend the 12AX7s for that amp. Didn’t want to mislead anybody. Or have Chucky tell me I’m wrong.

Hi all, I'm considering getting a Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro, tried it out in one of the stores here and immediately fell in love with the sound.

I'm a left-handed player and it's a right-handed bass, so I'll need to flip it. The strap button, lead socket and controls shouldn't need any modification so presumably it's just the nut and bridge that need flipping. I have a luthier here who should be able to do it for me, but I just want to make sure it's doable on that model before I buy.

Has anyone flipped a similar model before? Did you have any issues doing so? I read something online that there could be an issue changing the tune-o-matic bridge around but I don't know enough about it, did you run into any issues like that?

A drummer who does his homework even if it's for a quick demo and for free is worth of gold. I had this song of mine pretty much mapped out and played and wanted to add demo drums to it so it's easier to add the vocals and make final adjustments and instrumental arrangements and a proper bass part.
Since it's Max Webster influenced tune (my fav band) I said to the drummer that there's room for big tom fills and gave him a free reign to make his own parts. He had studied the song thoroughly (it's not too complex but still) and did two perfect takes to a click track. No notes.
I just played along but even though I'm playing too much the drumming helped immediately and it's now easy to come up with a part.

Here's some drums and bass with occasional synthesizer. The drums are in mono as I didn't have enough inputs to two overhead mikes and will be recorded properly later.

Sounds really good:bassist: Looking forward to hearing the finished song

Great questions. We do have a lefty club member that IIRC did flip a bird from right to left (@BklynKen), but I suspect it had the three point bridge not the tune-o-matic. IIRC the stock VP bridge has captive saddles, so you won’t be able to take them off to reverse the order. However, the bridge is symmetrical, so I would think you could remove the two body bolts flip the bridge 180 degrees and replace the body bolts. Of course your saddles will be facing backwards for a pretty sharp break angle but it might work out ok.

They would need to make sure long enough E strings are available. It’s a long way from the bridge to the top tuner post.

What? You don't have your set like that? You mean it's just me?

I thought they looked stupid at the time. Now they look somewhere between stupid and idiotic. But it worked for them for their goals in life. I guess the checks and chicks at the time were worth it when they look in the mirror in the mornings.

Lolll
There was a group of girls in junior high that dressed like that (at least once that I remember), each with a bandmember name on the badge. A few years after that, I dated one of the girls and she had moved on to Supertramp (Crime of the Century), BeeGees and others, but still enjoyed the music. BCR generated dedicated followers, I can tell you that :-).

VP pickups can occasionally be found used. They are highly sought after. They’re not available aftermarket.

I don’t have experience with Chinabuckers. Some reportedly find them to sound “thin.”

Thunderbuckers are hard to find now because he’s out of business. They’re also highly sought after and get snapped up pretty quickly. They’re legendary.

Of those mentioned, I’d call Lollar and ask about installing them in a fiver. By most accounts, he makes a great TBird pickup. They’re pretty popular.
