Thunderbird Club

When did "tone shaping" become a thing ? There's loud , window rattling loud and neighbors call the cops loud. I mean once I set the eq on the amp I may adjust the tone on the instrument but as far as shape goes I pretty much still look like a hairy barrel.
It’s the tone we’re shaping, not the players. That’s what bicycles are for.

Good points. I don’t know if the machine will recognize a loosening fret.
Not sure if it would catch a loose fret, or round over the fret ends, or take care of any fret sprout, or round over the fret board edges or polish the frets, or treat the board to a deep cleaning and oil job, or determine the action could go lower if a shim was used in the neck pocket, or if the bridge saddles are in the correct order and properly grooved, or that the pickups are too close to the strings and effecting intonation…etc.
There’s a lot of stuff that is all intertwined when you dig into a proper neck job. PLEK addresses some of it but doesn’t take note or do anything about the rest of it. A good luthier can transform the playability of a bass from klunky to bliss.

A drummer who does his homework even if it's for a quick demo and for free is worth of gold. I had this song of mine pretty much mapped out and played and wanted to add demo drums to it so it's easier to add the vocals and make final adjustments and instrumental arrangements and a proper bass part.
Since it's Max Webster influenced tune (my fav band) I said to the drummer that there's room for big tom fills and gave him a free reign to make his own parts. He had studied the song thoroughly (it's not too complex but still) and did two perfect takes to a click track. No notes.
I just played along but even though I'm playing too much the drumming helped immediately and it's now easy to come up with a part.

Here's some drums and bass with occasional synthesizer. The drums are in mono as I didn't have enough inputs to two overhead mikes and will be recorded properly later.

Question for the hive-mind: Anyone had a Thunderbird (or any other bass) PLEK-ED and if so, what did you think?
As far as I know, the '15 was Pleked from the factory. I can't say it is much different from the '01 or '91 or anything else. But then I'm also a CroMagnon with prehistoric hands.

i was thinking PLEK or not, I want a good luthier involved!

I just looked it up and supposedly all USA Gibsons are plekked and have been since 2014 according to this place. I know my 2018 and 2021 T-Birds cme pretty much perfectly set up.

Gibson
All Gibson USA guitars built after 2014 are factory PLEK’d. Before this, from 2010 only Traditional Les Pauls and guitars of quality above to this model were machine setup.

Is Getting Your Guitar PLEK’d Worth It?

That’s really good!

My SF Luthier Dan Ransom who builds my custom necks to my spec's is well capable of doing what a Plek machine can - but since the beginning we've Plek'd them all and he does the final dressing/fret end work afterwards, and I usually do the finishing. Pat Wilkins has done a few for me also. Best of all worlds.

White Thunderbird adjacent-ish.......
(also, Spector content for those of you into that sort of thing......)

:)

Man I love what the sisters do ! That version blew me away, first time I'm hearing it. They're all talented musicians, but that drummer makes everything look so easy, hitting the skins and singing and all...
