Thunderbird Club

Flipping it should not be a problem.

The bridge saddles do come out. The captive nut at the top of the bridge has an interference thread so it does not come off when you turn the screw to set intonation, but if you hold the nut with a wrench and back the screw out it will come off. Then you can swap saddle position around.

For the nut, I would have a new one cut for left hand. Simply turning the stock one around would not be shaped right. it is square towards the fretboard and rounded towards the tuners. Fortunately, cutting a new nut is not too hard or expensive.

String length won't be a problem. Any set of strings that fits a VP will fit it flipped. All 4 strings start at the same length out of the package. So if a set has a G string that fits the long side of the headstock, then the E will also.
I seem to remember somebody else trying to get the nut off the intonation screw and things did not work out so nicely.

Did the 5 string Thunderbird Studio use the same pickups as the 4 string Thunderbirds from the same period?

About 15 yrs ago I went through several pre tubes in search of a warmer sound with an old SWR head. There were slight differences between them, some a little more and some not so much. I'm sorry but I don't recall now which I prefered. JJs sounded good as I recall. Have them in one of my Ampeg heads. Tung-Sol should be pretty good. But others can hopefully provide better and more recent info.
Hey I got a very quick response from Hartke. They use Sovtek 12AX7's in the preamp. I'm happy with that all day

Lolll
There was a group of girls in junior high that dressed like that (at least once that I remember), each with a bandmember name on the badge. A few years after that, I dated one of the girls and she had moved on to Supertramp (Crime of the Century), BeeGees and others, but still enjoyed the music. BCR generated dedicated followers, I can tell you that :).
Saturday Night was a fun song to play because all the girls sung along. I only listened to it seriously to learn it. Root note city. We also got a lotta love from the girls for the Grand Funk version of Locomotion.

Lulls? Can they even be bought apart from a bass? Seems those might be the next best option to the 1960s version, from the praise they get.

They can be. V has one on order for the BaCH he just got. But then she is an endorser of them. I haven’t tried calling them yet to order one for mine. I’m not in a hurry. But they are very spendy. A set of Lollars isn’t much more than the cost of one Lull.

Again, this place is amazing. Have a go at it @zoracle451 and let us know how you like it! And then join us for the fun and frivolity.

There was coincidentally a recent discussion in the Mesa Club. Andy said The Russian 12AT7s are preferred in the TT. But the Chinese variants are preferred in the Subway WD800. “It has to do with the characteristic curve shapes.”
