Thunderbird Club

Cool site!

I wonder how their rings differ from the one I got from Philadelphia Luthiers for $10.74 and arrived super quick. Installing it tonight or
tonight or tomorrow.

It's a one-person shop. If the Philadelphia Luthiers ones work for you, then you're all set. The thing with Dave at FOTN is that it's custom-made. I had him make rings that matched the TB+ covers. Just because the pickups have black plastic covers doesn't mean they shouldn't have rings. I think they give a more complete look. If anyone with TB+ pickups is looking for rings, Dave already has the measurements from the three I got from him. For the third, the bridge position on the RNR, he just needed to make another from the template from the two from my Reverse.

Did the 5 string Thunderbird Studio use the same pickups as the 4 string Thunderbirds from the same period?

I want to say yes, they are the same size pickup. But someone that owns the 5 string Studio would need to confirm that.

Not sure about the Gibson Studio, but the Epiphone Pro 4/5 used the same pickups, afaik.
They have the same external size as TB+ units....

I recall seeing discussions that indicated some early Pros used 4 string p/us and they were too narrow.

The official explanation, implying they were not the same pickups as in the IV, is here:

First play on TB (from 2022).
:D

I had to be sedated early this morning for a stomach exam, so I've been out of my mind for a few hours.
When I access Talkbass, see alerts, think "why the hell do I have so many likes today?".

I completely forgot what I posted in the last few hours; and one more funfact: after exiting the exam room, I took 3 ridiculous selfies, which I haven't the slightest clue how and why took them

Better living through chemistry

The SXCL (South by Cirrus Logic, my work’s lunchtime concert series during SXSW) lineup was announced today. I don’t recall hearing of most of them, but as usual it’s a very promising lineup: Carson McHone; The Heavy Heavy; The Nude Party; Abraham Alexander; Briscoe.
They feed us lunch those days, too.

It’s ok Stu. Hope you’re feeling better.
