Thunderbird Club

I had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (not the same camera I hope) and when I was waking up my wife was there and a nurse. She said I started opening my eyes and rolled my head in her direction and said, "Jiiiim Beeeeam." She said, "What did you say?" I replied more clearly, "Jim Beam." Her and the nurse cracked up. She told the nurse that I hadn't had any Jim Beam in decades. When she told me I got a good laugh out of it.

Every time I have been sedated I say something strange. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. One time after a upper endo and a colonoscopy I was told not to do any strenuous activities for the rest of the day. I told the nurse that was a shame because I was supposed to participate in a break-dance competition that afternoon. I fully remember saying it, but no clue why that popped into my head or out of my mouth.

Thank you for the thorough response, that's exactly what I was looking for! I'll probably be going with a set of the higher-gauge Ernie Ball flats (the 55-110 most likely) so with any luck they should do the job.

I'll ask the luthier how much a new nut would cost if he had to change it out. In that situation is it more normal to get one online and get him to install it (I've seen people do this with Hipshot bridges for example) or just go with whatever he has on hand?

Just going through all the responses now, thanks for all the replies everyone, great to see such an active forum.
Think about what you want to use. It’s a good opportunity to switch to brass, real bone, Tusq, or even Corian.

Tusq sells blanks in black or white and is easy to work with. I just bought a Tusq nut directly from the supplier, Graph Tech. They have the widest variety of sizes. Even though they’re in Canada, it arrived pretty quick. Measure carefully to get the right size.

On the 2015, is the toggle a DPDT?
There are two switches on the ‘15, one for each pickup. I assume they are SPST. Down is tap off. Up is tap on. But don’t take my word for it. @GBassNorth knows a lot more about this stuff than I do.

Others on here have spoken to Jim DeCola at Gibson about various things. He designed them. Maybe try and contacct him if you will be doing the project DIY?

One of the fond memories I have as a young kid in San Diego (where they began) was Jack’s. I still prefer them to McDonald’s which I haven’t been to in years.
I spent some time in San Diego as a member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, but I don't recall ever seeing-or eating at-a "Jack's". And I've lived in FL all my life and don't remember ever seeing one here so I don't get 'coming back'.

I suspect any they had would have been in Orlando. When they initially expanded east, they were only in a few cities. They were not successful. So they withdrew back to being regional.

In your day, there were a couple at the beaches, one in Hillcrest, a couple on El Cajon Boulevard, and a few others scattered about the suburbs.

Possibly. However, pre-Dismal World, Orlando was a relatively sleepy crossroads in the middle of the state, surrounded by citrus groves.
When I was stationed at North Island NAS, the bridge into San Diego didn't exist. Ya hadda take the ferry.* I had a small motorcycle(Honda 160), but my radius of 'getting around' was fairly small.
*the lower leg of the second "R" on the neon sign was burned out, so we called it the "FERPY".

The cookies were too fragile to get stuffed in the sample box but that won’t stop me from stuffing my face. Mamool can’t be beat even if crushed a bit.

Now that’s more like it! I’m gaining weight just looking at those pictures.
Baklava and Shortbread my two food weakness’s!
….(well actually I’m a sucker for Seafood, Prime Beef cuts, Lamb, Veal, Chicken, Pork, Ostrich, Bison, Boar, Alligator, Fresh Water Fish, and just about any other form of non insect or plant based protein).

Not positive without looking at the wiring, but by operation I’d assume it’s a SPDT on/on switch.

I listened to all the 2015 samples I could find, and, for me, couldn't hear a need for the coil tap switch. That said, possibly the neck pickup, but for sure not the bridge. I had the same experience with my Roscoe SKB 3005 with coil taps, never use them, both coils on all the time. My SushiBox pedals add all the different characters I need.
