I came across this picture of my brother's Hagstrom 6 string bass, so I now have it as my profile picture. I first played this in 1972. I believe it was made in the mid sixties. It follows the string configuration of an electric guitar, but an octave lower.
Does anyone else have pics of their weird old basses?

Very nice and rare hagstrom coronado. I have the 4 string version.

Oooh! Look at those 6 string BiSonic pickups!

Not mine, but I'll throw in this unique old bass, the Yamaha SB-5A Flying Samurai:

Oh, man! Blast from the past. That was my first bass, except it was red.

My recollection of the sound was that it was pretty muddy. Had I known about different strings back then, I might have different recall. Unfortunately the headstock on mine snapped off. Thus, started my relationship with Fender basses.

Fingerstyle can bring that great subby Motown vibe in spades but it's amazing how sharp it can get with the help of a pick & a few choice pedals & preamps!
