Did anyone have any thoughts about the string tree on the current california solid ubasses? I've taken mine off entirely becuase it was to painful to tune around.

Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

In case this ever comes up and anybody ever needs a replacement charger for the original California series I found one by Mi-Si electronics and it works great.
This afternoon I got the brilliant idea to buy another u-bass, & this time I'm going straight to the Kala dealer up North,
but first...
has anyone had issues with their Kala acoustic over Winter?, folks who didn't humidify...
I had a Hadean fret-less u-bass & the bridge started coming up over Winter.
Would've been a C-note to fix it, so I sold it, instead.
At the time I told myself I'd never own another acoustic, but it would be nice to have one for playing out on the back porch.
Even with a tiny little VOX hybrid amp, it's still a big move to take an electric outdoors.

Buy mine. About 6 years old. No issues spruce fretless. I do not humidify any instrument.
No issues with my exotic mahogany in Arizona. Bit of sharp fret ends, but a little filing fixed that.
I have 2 Kala acoustic U-Basses. No issues (in Michigan) -- but I definitely do humidify.
I have a Hutch Hutchinson fretted U-Bass. I live in southern California and it gets pretty dry here, but I don’t humidify. I’ve had no problems with the bridge pulling up. Hopefully that won’t become an issue.
I finally got those Galli UXB810 Black Nylon strings...they are really great! However I see that they have now just released a flatwound version...GAS has piqued my interest yet again!
Hmmm... will have to check these out. I take it they are not as "sticky" on the fingers as the Aquila etc. ?
I have a luna with flatwounds, but an octave up. My ubass may not get played but flatwounds could change that.

Kala has their new flatwounds out, I've heard some good things, anybody try them?
These flatwounds too are nylon-core! (Which is sure to help with intonation.)

I just went to install the Gilli UXB810 on my solid body 21" scale bass uke with stringthrough holes but the strings are too short. Seems Galli only made them for the Kala acoustic U-bass. Too bad, I would have used them on a number of my bass ukes. I sent a suggestion that they make a 2" longer set too.
I am concerned regarding your comments about the short sustain. That could be a deal breaker for me. I would appreciate hearing other opinions on this. Thanks for the review. Are you not using these any longer?
