    DIY Tube Preamp question

I do have a master control. I guess thats all I will need. I did actually make a mistake though, when plugged into my recording interface, I did compare the amount of gain from just my bass to the amount of gain of my bass through the preamp. Obviously the preamp is gonna be heaps louder...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Hey guys, its been a while since my last post. The preamp has been built and everything is working nicely. When my internet is faster I will post picks up of the build process. Anyway, the gain from the output is way too high. I wired a bypass switch into the preamp and have been...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

How can I get an overdrive sound from this preamp? At the moment it is a very clean sounding preamp (im guessing that this is because of the preamp design). Is it even possible to get an overdrive sound from this preamp?

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Thats exactly what I am using. So if I change the pot to a 4m, I will beable to hear a decent change in treble when I adjust the pot? If I were to keep the 1m pot, what caps would I put in place of the 47pf and 470pf?

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Will changing my 1m treble pot to a 4m pot do much difference? I cant hear any change of sound when I adjust the treble pot so I have a feeling that Ive got something wrong with my soldering. The bass pot works great though. Another question, that .02uf cap that goes to the tone circuit, do...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Because I copied the Ampeg B15 portaflex tone circuit. The pot used in the ampeg for treble is a 4m, I dont have any 4m pots at the moment so I just through in a 1m but I feel that it does not cut or boost treble much at all so I think that a 4m pot would have a bigger effect.

    DIY Tube Preamp question

The other 6x4 tube I ordered came in the mail, I plugged it in, it heats up and I now get the B+ voltage. Ive got jacks wired onto it to see if I get sound and I do, its nice and clean, not too much noise which is good. The tone circuit works really nice, except that I need to replace the 1m...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

I plan to put it in the effects loop of my ss bass amp. Peavey Tour 450. So I wouldnt need a master control because id just be using the master control on the actual bass amp instead? So I will only need one gain pot at the start? Will I beable to get an overdrive type sound from this preamp...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

While I wait for a new 6x4 tube to come in the mail, Im going to sort out the pots and jacks and start drilling all the required holes on the chassis. I was thinking of having Gain 1, Gain 2, Bass, Treble and Master. For Gain 1 Id have a pot at the very start of the whole preamp, for Gain 2...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Ok I think I have got them wired properly, they are both heating equally (barely glowing but I think thats normal/not an issue?) and the heatsinks are not over heating. I went off the diagram attatched. My only problem now is that Im still not getting a B+ voltage and the 6x4 tube isnt...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Can a multimeter measure amps? Seeing that wiring the 12ax7's in parallel off one dc out seems to work at the moment and that wiring the 12au7's in series off an individual dc out doesnt seem to work, could I just wire the 12au7's in parallel aswell and power that off one dc out? This will...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

The tubes are in ceramic sockets, which are pre soldered to the board with holes on the board for the wires to be soldered to for the heating. Is my idea of parallel tube wiring correct though?

    DIY Tube Preamp question

ok, I changed the voltage from the power supply so that it is now 280v. Turns out I wired the 12au7 tubes wrong, so I think I fixed that. For the DC3 out for the 12ax7's, I have two wires coming off the positive, each wire going to pin 4 on the two 12ax7's, i then have a wire connecting pin 4...

    Turning a 1M pot into a 4M pot

Im building a tube preamp and Im replicating the ampeg b15 tone circuit. The pot for treble is meant to be a 4M but the shop I go to only has pots up to 1M. Is there a way to turn it into a 4M, putting a certain resistor somewhere on it?

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Thats also another thing, I have the high voltage hooked up and connected to the B+ on the preamp but I cant get any readings, I measure from the B+ out on the rectifier aswell as the B+ circuit on the preamp and I get like 1 volt or something. I have a feeling I was given the wrong...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

ok, the tubes are hooked up, thers about 12v going to each of the four on the preamp and about 6v going to the rectifier tube. The two 12au7's and two 12ax7's are glowing nicely, the two filaments in each are glowing. Except the rectifier tube (6x4) is not glowing at all. I have the 6.3vac...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

never mind, its almost completely wired up, just one thing though, ive measured the voltage for the heaters for the two 12au7's and two 12ax7's and they are each putting out 25vdc which is way too much for the tubes. There is three heater outputs, one for the two 12ax7's in parallel and the...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Ok sweet. I recieved everything in the mail yesterday. Just want to double check some things about connecting the transformer to the rectifier and see if im on the right track. Here are some pics. Ok, So you have a wire going from 6.3v on the transformer to the terminal labelled 6.3v...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

Can I use any 2M2 resistor for this or does it have to take a certain high voltage? Ive read that you can use anything but im still unsure about that. Should I be using log pots for everything? (bass, treble, gain, vol) I assumed linear would be more accurate but when I tested how linear...

    Etone speakers?

yea I understand this but I just wanted to put together a quick cab using left over plywood, I made the dimensions very similar toa markbass traveler, and made a few changes so that it would sit nicely ontop of my 410 cab. Sweet, thanks for the help!

    Etone speakers?

Ive been building a 210 cabinet and Im now looking for speakers to put in, I dont want to fork out alot either. Anyone had any experience with etone speakers? I mean the new etone speakers, not the old stuff which was apparently really good in the day. This speaker in particular-...

    210 Build

Dude that is some real nice builds you got going, thanks heaps for sharing the pics. My 410 cab is 8ohms, so with the impedance doubling of the 210 cab, make the 210 16ohms? If so, what impedance should the speakers be that I buy and how should I wire it? Thanks heaps everyone for the...

    210 Build

Im building a 210 cab very similar to the markbass traveler 102p. Ive got left over plywood from another build I did so thought Id clear the garage and put the plywood to some use. Id probably load it with some delta's or something by eminence. It will be used with a 410 cab that has a...

    Peavy Tour 450 or 700?

I have a 450 and in my opinion it has enough head room and volume, im in a hardcore band with guitarists who have valve quads (they dont always crank it though). If you can afford the extra for the 700 I would. The reason why I didnt go for the 700 was simply because I couldnt afford it. I do...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

I bought everything, just gotta wait for it to come in the mail. Now for the equalizer section. What would be an ideal equalizer to use for this preamp? Something that works best with bass guitar. Im thinking either the baxandall or the fender/marshall style circuit. I would prefer a mid...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

A couple week s ago I purchased the "Inside Tube Amps" book by Dan Torres, almost finished reading it. I must say it is a bloody good book, it has taught me alot. I was just looking over my earlier posts in this thread and cant believe how ridiculous I sounded. I do understand that reading...

    DIY Tube Preamp question

I was just glancing through my tube amp book and im pretty sure it said that the power transformer puts out voltage in AC, but the tubes need DC voltage to power them. Is that right? If so, does this mean Il need to have some sort of rectifying happening between the tubes and power transformer...

    Newbie question about pedal build

I did have the transistors around the wrong way to start off with, then once I put them in properly, bypass then worked, and active only gave my very slight faded signal, whereas with the transistors back to front, I got nothing at all in both modes. Im pretty certain the transistors are around...

    Newbie question about pedal build

I whipped out my multimeter, put the black on the grounded part of the circuit board, and red on the op amp. This is what I got. 9v battery=8.7 op amp- 1=8 2=7.6 3=7.5 4=8 5=7.5 6=7.5 7=8.1 8=8.6 Is that enough or do I need to do the same for every component? I tried measuring...

    Newbie question about pedal build

alright sweet. Everything is wired up, works in bypass, no bad noise, just clean dry bass signal, but when active, the signal becomes very significantly quieter, and the signal does drop out into absolutely no noise whatsoever randomly (except if you play the string really hard, you get abit of...
