    solo bass pieces

thankyou! i do pride myself on my bass face. And RyanJD - I love avishai cohen, and take great influence from him for my compositions. The tune raindrop that's up on my youtube was actually written for a full band, and it sounds avishai-esque (i'd like to think at least haha). There'll be a full...

    solo bass pieces

when you say harmonic pinches do you mean false harmonics? I think all the ones i was using in those vids are natural. Next time i'm planning to maybe mic up my amp so I can get a nicer harmonic tone, but to be totally honest my sound card sucks ass and it's so noisy so i don't think there's too...

    solo bass pieces

hey guys, sorry for the shameless plug but I've just stuck a couple of bass solo videos up on youtube. One of them is an arrangement of an elvis costello tune, and the other I wrote myself, please take a look and let me know what you think. If you like then there are more to come : )...

    Tone changes with pickup height?

surely if it's similar to a microphone then moving the strings closer to the pickups would increase the bass frequencies?

    LIPA

I have just had an offer from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts to study music performance, and I was wondering If any of you guys have had any experiences there and could tell me what you thought of it? I've had an offer from the icmp too, and it's a big decision so any help would be...

    Disco octave RH fingering

I used to find 1 21, 1 21.. easier, but after practicing 1 12, 1 12, until I nailed it i've found it alot easier to play fast disco lines

    A short solo piece.

Please check it out guys and let me know what you think - I'm going to rerecord it, but I'm looking for some feedback/ constructive criticism on the composition. Oh, and if anyone wants to suggest a name please do! Anyone else got a solo piece they want to share? Cheers guys.

Most Unprofessional Thing You've Done at a Show

I think the most unprofessional, and probably the worst thing I've done was taking 4 double dipped tabs of a heavy hallucinogenic drug the night / early morning before a gig. I didn't sober up until a couple of hours before soundcheck, and considering this was probably the most horrifying...

    Gig Recording

haha 2002? I would have been about 10 at the time. Yeah the roman baths are pretty cool. Did you taste the water? It's pretty eggy. I wonder if it helps improve bass playing..

    Gig Recording

Hey guys, just thought I'd post my band's rendition of the tune 'crazy' that we performed at a gig in Bath last friday night. It's not particularly tight as we hadn't practiced in a couple of weeks, but I'd like to think we've done something interesting with it. Let me know what you think...

    Age gap amusement - again

I've only just turned 18 and one of the bands I play in is composed of people between around 27-30. I thought the age gap may be a disadvantage at the audition, but they were really cool about it. It's nice when people can see past your bumfluff to the bass player underneath : )

    A Soundman Dies...

I thought it was funny, but only because it relates to one of my bands. We used to have alot of trouble cutting through the mix as our lead singer's (female) voice isn't as strong or loud as our other singer's (male) voice. This means that the engineer can't boost her vocals nearly enough...

    3Leaf Audio Club

I love my GR. Do I need to tell you my serial to get a number because that involves walking up 3 flights of stairs? I will if it is required though. I'm not part of any clubs :(

Gig's- How do you get them?

When I started gigging we used to get gigs just by making friends with the sound engineers on nights out. Go around venues talking to the people who work there and hand out demos/ myspace address. It helps if you take people's numbers (you are much more likely to follow it up than they are)...

RANT: I need a sign that says you cant use my gear

Haha, no it was actually at the croft in Bristol. My folks always tell me tales of the hat and feather, but it's gotten pretty tame now.

RANT: I need a sign that says you cant use my gear

Last gig I played the band before us were borrowing our drummer's kit. They were playing some overly aggressive rock music and the drummer was pounding the hell out of the snare, so our saxophonist politely goes up in between songs and asks him if he'd mind being a bit lighter with his touch to...

    Peavey Pro 115

Hey guys, I'm sorry if someone has already posted something like this, but I searched and couldn't find much information on this cabinet. I have just got a little mark tube and I need to buy a cab. I've managed to find a Peavey Pro 115 for around 250 pounds, which to me seems like a great deal...

Teaching people who were ahead of me a year ago

I 4m a teenageer nd my writing skillz are perfect. But seriously - I'm 17 and I hardly have any friends who use text speak when they're typing. To be honest most of the people I know who use annoying abbreviations and acronyms are older then 30. Don't judge us all merely because there's a few of...

They say idle hands are the devil's playground...

I'm quite busy atm. On top of doing my a levels (which I find challenging enough as it is) I go to a jazz workshop every monday night, practice with my hip hop band on tuesdays, my funk band on wednesdays and my jazz quartet on fridays after school. On top of that I'm having driving lessons...

    "The Belt" (Master Class)

Unfortunately this is something I've only recently started doing and I haven't got any gig photos with my new strap length yet. I'll be sure to post when I do though! To make the strap short enough I had to pierce a new hole in the leather. That was alot harder than I initially expected. Also -...

    "The Belt" (Master Class)

I wear my bass within an inch of my chin (well not quite, but you get the picture). Don't listen to what your friend says, you want your bass next to your chest so that you can channel your energy, after all - 'groove is in the heart'.

NEW MIJ Fenders. where can i buy one?

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Mine is a CIJ jazz and I love it. Plays as well as any american fender I've tried I got mine from the bass cellar in London but judging from your location I doubt that's any help. I hope that link is some help.

    the worse shop assistants ever

I once went into a a local shop as I was looking for an acoustic bass. Being 17 years old the shop assistant obviously thought I was in there because I had nothing else to do, and when I asked to try out a bass the response I got was: "realistically you're only in here because it's raining and...

    What a night!

I know how you feel man! We were playing a halloween gig once, and some idiot spilt a pint over an extension cable. The fuse goes and all the lights turn off, along with the PA, all our amps, etc. The sound guy was extremely professional and with a smile on his face dealt with the whole...
