Help wanted - im just a regular guy...

Howdy all! I've been looking through the threads all morning for a solution but nothing came up - I'm looking for a new set of strings, I used to have a set of rotosound roundwounds on my passive jazz bass, they were ok for a while but the tone is well and truly dead. I literally play all...

    Walking Basslines--HELP!!

My teacher taught me a really neat way of starting off: Grab yourself some music paper Write down your chord sequence at the beginning of every bar (make your own or find a simple one) On the first bar put a root note minim and a Fifth minim on the sheet ( E.G on an E7 chord put down an E...

    Different strings, same bass

I'm no expert but maybe you should try altering your tone a little, turn up your front pickup a bit over the back one (or pan the pickups so it's a little front orientated) if you find the tone is too agressive, also you could try turning down the tone knob on your bass. This probably won't help...

    Motivation help!

Yo guys! I looked around a bit to see if this had been covered in stickies or anything and I don't think it has - but I guess it's not that common! I'm in a band with a truly awesome guitarist - problem is he's got a very volatile personality - kinda lazy too. Don't get me wrong, we get a lot...

    Metronomes! Help needed

Howdy all I wanted to know if you guys know of any good analogue metronomes that are reliable and can be changed to different time signatures, I know of a few digital ones but can analogue ones do that? If so could you get back to me with brand names and makes? Cheers

Stupid things your bandmates have said.

On the led zeppelin opening topic I'm pretty sure it's 4/4 for the first 3 bars then goes to 3/8 for a bar and back to 4/4 :)

    Another Question

Yeah I have problems with fast grooves all the time, but like the other guy said get a metronome or something (a worthwhile investment) and practice it slowly and work up. If your doing octaves I strongly suggest that you try holding your left hand octave shape up and down the neck. Hope this...

    Noodling More? Are Ya?

Yep I agree!! sometimes when I have a creativity block I'll whip my phone out and record bits I want to fill the void on, doesnt matter if it's bad quality. Take it home and just find something that fits nicely. Alternatively speak to the other band members who'll probably agree and see what...

Double Bass The official talkbass newbie's guide to buying a double bass.

Howdy y'all! I've been playing electric Bass for a few years now and am coming to round off by doing my grade 8 after Christmas, I decided that once I have that out of the way I can really explore more aspects of bass, the bands I play in don't cover jazz that much so I got listening and in no...

    Seeking advice! Watts of amps

Hey guys, I'm considering buying an ashdown 65W bass amp from someone I kno (not sure which series yet) and I'm assured that the sound will not distort even at max volume! He is selling it for 75 quid and was wondering if anybody owned one and could tell me if you get some decent volume from it...

I just don't get the appeal of "vintage" basses....

I have quite a nice vintage jazz bass (part of the re-issued series) and I love of it because of it's versitility and range of sounds as well as it's reliability, it's never broken down on me, the electronics are reasonable and it wasn't expensive only £300 quid for a good quality product :)...
