Double Bass - I don't really get it

Double bass has an amazingly full and round sound if played well. Check this out for some proper double bass playing: Jeremy

If you had to play one bass forever, what would it be?

    Surprising no one. Jeremy

    Small gigging amp?

Hello all, So I currently own a Roland Micro Cube Bass amp and a Hartke Hydrive 410 + LH500, and I love them both. However, in the fall, I'm going off to college, and neither of those amps are going to work. The Hartke is much too big and heavy, and I won't have a car at least the first year...

Double Bass Thoughts on my pizz to arco issue?

I find that I play pizz right on top of the end of the fingerboard and my arco sweet spot is about an inch lower when playing high up on the bass. I think you just need to bow a little bit lower and you'll be fine. Jeremy

Would you still be a bassist if you didn't have a band?

Oh yes. Take Jaco's advice: the bass is a beautiful instrument, well suited to playing any part of a song, not just the bass line. Learn melodies and chords other rhythms and all parts of music, and you can be an entire band with just a bass. I am in many bands, but I still write my own...

Bass Wall Hangers-What do you use to hang your bass on the wall?

In my experience, the Hercules Autogrips mounted into a wall stud or a wood strip holds almost anything. I don't have any 13lb basses, but it holds my 10 pounder with no problem whatsoever. Jeremy

Rig Advice for someone without a car

Hmmm... I'd say your upper size limit is somewhere around a 115-210 area. If I were you, I'd go to the nearest music store, try out all their small and light preamps through all their small and light cabs until you find a combination you like. Jeremy

Does changing a neck change the brand?

    Double Bass Chromatic Modal?

Thanks. He seemed to be talking about it as a different approach to analyzing chords in new ways in order to play out. Thanks for the background on it. I'm going to do some digging to see if it is really worth the effort to learn. Jeremy

My new Custom Warwick *bass porn!*

If only you went for a rosewood fingerboard... That would have done it for me.

    Double Bass Chromatic Modal?

This is a concept I heard my piano playing friend talk about, and I couldn't get a good solid explanation from my bass teacher about. Anyone understand this chromatic modal business? Thanks. Jeremy

Double Bass Bluegrass version of "Tommy"

Heard a ska version of Tommy a while ago, liked it, and now I like this. It's a great album for interesting interpretation. Jeremy

    Failed Audition

Three words: Get a teacher. It may seem lame or too expensive, or like you just don't need to do it, but it isn't. It's worth it. A good teacher will improve your playing and knowledge at a highly accelerated rate compared to learning on your own.

    MIA Fender or Warmoth Build

If you're planning to keep it around in the stable, I'd go Warmoth every single time. I love 'em. However, if you might want to sell it in a little while, Fenders will have a MUCH higher resale value. But, I think a custom Warmoth kicks the crap out of MIA Fender.

Lined fretless: Make me feel better please!

I'll just say this: Richard Bona plays a lined fretless. You're welcome. Jeremy

Ran into this guy tonight....awesome show.

Felix is an incredible player, and a really nice guy too. I got to talk to him after a Jeff Coffin show and he was very humble and all-around cool! Jeremy

When somebody calls bass players "failed guitarists"...

Ouch! That's not very nice. :-) Don't piss them off, they'll turn our treble up... ;-) Jeremy

What's with all these people who don't know the difference between bass and electric guitar?

Well, all my friends seem to think I play guitar and cello... So... We do seem to have a problem here.

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

Got to talk to Vic before a show a couple of weeks ago. Asked him what his next big project was. His answer: classical style bass concerto. Needless to say, I'm very excited. Jeremy

    Hartke LH500

I love the LH500. It's my main amp when paired with my Hydrive 410. I love the tone so much that I don't mind lugging it around. It is so worth it. The price is also killer, especially because I got it on sale for $350 brand new. It's super rugged and sweet and I would pick it over most other...

Artist-Used Basses you want to own

Victor Wooten's Yin Yang Deluxe (I actually got the chance to play this once, it was absolutely fantastic and gorgeous and amazing) or Stanley Clarke's Dragon's Breath. Both are gorgeous and fantastic basses, that are unrealistically (for me) expensive. Jeremy

The Official Hartke Club Part 2

No pictures for now, I may have time to get some next week. From my brief first impression, though, this is the greatest amp i've had the privilege to play through. The tone is so clear and yet has so much power to it, it's a perfect tonal balance for me. Lovin' it! :bassist: Jeremy

Post Your Gig Pics For Us To Caption 5!!!!!

I know I'm a bit younger than most of you, but there is still probably some good fodder in this one: A little background: I'm 16 and this is an all-county highschool honor jazz band, in this picture we were raising money at a pizza parlor. Can't you see how excited we were? :ninja:

Are you from a musical family?
