How hard is it to add on a series/parallel switch to a Fender Jazz Bass? I'm replacing the pickups in my MIM and would like to have that option

My left hand has been locking/cramping when I grip small objects and exert a good bit of force (i.e. using a screwdriver) but it doesn't bother me when I'm playing bass could I have either of these or could it be something else?
