    Covering other local bands' songs

I don't know if this question has been asked before, but is it considered poor form to cover another local band's songs? They are a national act, and have multiple albums out, but they still perform quite a bit in the area. There's really only one song I'd like to cover, and I'd definately give...

    Funk and Groove without slap?

I'm primarily a rock player, but have been getting more and more into Funk and Groove styles. The thing is, I don't slap and at this point I'm not really interested in it. Are there any good tunes/bands that don't have too much slap?

    Palm Muting...

I play in a hard rock/metal band with some "proggy" influences (I like to say Pantera meets Dream Theater), and my guitarist and I got into a discussion on palm muting. He thinks that when the guitar is muted, the bass should be also. I said that fretting the notes on the bass gives it an...

Cakewalk help please - beginning home studio

So I'm wanting to start some home recording and I got the 222 home recording kit that includes Cakewalk Music Creator 5 and an output cable with a USB end. So...how do I get the darn thing to work? I plugged it in, I get a little icon in the bottom right corner that says MIDI Input/Output...

    Quick Question About Inversions

So I read something in another TB post concerning reggae basslines and playing inversions (i.e. root in the bass, 5th in the bass, 3rd in the bass). Could anyone go into more detail on this concept and how it applies in genres other than reggae? I understand basic concepts of theory such as...

    Cash Cab Bassline

Does anyone have the tabs for the Cash Cab theme song? It sounds like a fairly simple walking line (hear: right before it goes to commercial), but I haven't been able to get it down exactly yet.

How can I play more like Cliff Burton?

I've been listening to classic Metallica a lot lately, and would like to play more like Cliff. Orion and (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth of course, but even stuff like For Whom The Bell Tolls and Master of Puppets. Does anyone have any practice tips to play more like Cliff? On a side note, are...

    Silly E string...

Ok, so this question is definitely going to brand me as a beginner, but here goes: I use the "anchored thumb" technique when I play (anchoring my thumb on the pickup instead of "floating" it to the next lower string). So how do I keep the E string from ringing when I play notes on the A? I...

What kind of band am I in?

So I've been playing for about a year and a half now (mostly self taught but with a few lessons too) and I feel like the time is right to join a band. But what kind of band should I join? I like to listen to pretty much all types of music, from metal to jazz to classic rock to funk...and I...

    Bass in Hawaii?

New to the site, and not sure if this is where this post goes, but I'm looking for good bass lessons in Hawaii. I'm really looking for a bassist to learn from, not a guitarist who teaches bass (which seems to be all I can find). Any out there? Thanks in advance...

    O.A.R. Fans?

Any O.A.R. fans out there? I don't know about you, but I really dig on Benj Gershman's style. He can lay down the funk, solo like the devil, and still hold down the groove to support the rest of the band. I especially dig Dareh Meyod's groovy reggae feel.
