I recently bought a Crafted in Japan Jazz bass. It is a 62RI and everything appears accurate. I checked the Fender serial database and it says Serials beginning with R + 5 digits are 2004/2005 but mine begins with R + 6 digits. R006951 is printed on the heel along with "Crafted in Japan" anyone...

Recently sanded down a mexican jazz bass in order to refinish. Once I got through the paint and primer the wood had a layer of clear finish. Water based lacquer or vaneer/overlay?
