    Career Changer

I am curious about musicians in general, but bass players in particular, who have experienced that one main event that made all the difference between a ho hum career, and one that dramatically improved your career for the better. That one gig where someone in the audience heard you and...

How should I string my Fender Jazz?

I play in a classic rock cover band that also does some straight electric blues. My main bass is a Carvin PB 5 PJ which has round super brights. It cuts through the mix great, punchy slap bass (on the one song I play slap). I love the versitility so it will remain my main ax. I have a Fender P...

To play or not to play, that is the question...

Question set-up: I'm 53 y.o, and in a very good cover band that does classic rock from 60s, 70s, 80s. My back ground is that I've played URB in jazz groups from duos to big bands, until I co-formed this rock band with the lead singer, who is a very good friend, and we are the leaders who make...

    2 Ohm heads

Why aren't there more amps/heads that can handle 2 ohms? I have a Carvin and I love it, but since I'm looking for a back up, it looks like another Carvin... Not complaining, but there seems to be a lack of options.

    Inline cable ohm resistor

Is there any product on the market (or is it even possible?), that is an inline ohm resistor between the amp and the cab that could change a 4 ohm load into an 8ohm load? So, If I have a really powerful amp that puts out 600w at 4 ohms and a 4 ohm cab that can only handle 500w, is there some...

    Carvin BX 1500 Question

Does anyone who has this amp know whether if one side amp fails, the other is still operable. In effect, whether this amp has its own built in back up?

    Have you been "Poached?"

So, I am 53 yrs old and I am in a very good classic rock cover band. We do bars and increasingly outdoor summer festival type gigs. Not yet fully established at the local club level but could happen if the band can stays together long enough. Everyone has a day job. Everyone in the band is a pro...

    Sub guy ettiquette

This just happened: My band booked a sub drummer, the main drummer from another band, for next weekend 8/30. He has already rehearsed with the band once, and was to rehearse again tomorrow. Got an text this a.m. saying essentially "My other band just booked a gig for 8/30, can you find another...

Slight string buzz on '72 Fender fretless P

I have owned this bass since about the late '80s and never have needed to make a neck adjustment (straight as an arrow). I recently switched from tape wounds to TI flats and LOVE the sound! But, I am now noticing small buzz high on the neck. I have read here on TB that TI flats are looser and...

Troubles with my '72 Fender P.

Please help! Symptoms: output into amp suddenly drops from full range tone and volume to approximately 25% volume and lose of full tonal range ( becomes tinny). Then full range comes back if I "dig in" a little, then goes away again - kind of randomly. It's not the amp cuz other basses work...

    Active vs. Passive pickups

Assuming one has an amp with a wide tonal range that already has a preamp and serious power like a Carvin BX1500, what is the advantage/disadvantage between active and passive pickups on a bass? I'm trying to decide between a standard p bass or the deluxe w/ active pickups.

    Fender

I am thinking of adding another bass to my gear. I have a Kawai F2B with active pickups, and a '72 fretless P bass. I am thinking of a newer Fender fretted bass though I'm not sure P or J yet. My question is: What are the differences in quality between U.S. or Mexican or Japanese or wherever...

    Kawai F2B pickups

I have an all original F2B that I bought new back in '87-'88 or so. The pickups are making a large amount of noise. Remedies? Anyone know what kind of pickups were original to this bass? What about possible replacement pickups?

Emergency back up amps at gigs

I have just purchased a used (obviously) rig - Sunn 1200s w/ Sunn 410h cab for $300.00. Good deal I thought. This is really a Fender product from the late 90s/early '00s. It really kicks though with only one 8 Ohms cab, its around 300w and not the 1200w it could put out at 2 ohms. Anyway, this...

    Acme Low B2 v. Eden D210 XST

Any strong feelings between these two cabs? Probably going to pair with a Carvin BX1500.

    Band Diva

Any suggestions on how to deal with a guy who is important to the band but not irreplaceable (some lead vocals, harmony vocals and rhythm guitar), is basically a nice guy, but has no clue on how high maintenance he is? He is the last to show up at gigs and the first to leave... he is the only...

    Acme Low B2 - 4 or 8 Ohm w/ Carvin BX1500?

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to try this rig w/ 2 b2s. Wondering which Ohm Acme b2 makes more sense. Could two 8 ohm cabs (4 ohm in series) handle 1500 watts bridged? I'm thinking not, but they say these cabs need power. Seems that the 300w each for 8 ohm in bi-amp mode might not be...

Which 210 cab - Carvin BRX10.2 or Avitar B210 or Acme Low b-2?

I am looking at a new rig centered around the Carvin BX1500 amp. I like the two amps with the ability to use both at full range or high/low. In another thread, the point was made that the most versatile rig would be to have matching cabs rather than a 210 on top and 115 or 118 on the bottom...
