Nylon Tape Wound strings and string ground issues

What am I missing here? The nylon tape wrap removes string ground. The bass buzzes (talking vintage style passive basses). I actually like the sound of tape wounds, but this is a deal breaker. Have people played them since the 1960s and just lived with the buzz?

    Gibson EB-2 (30.5" scale) strings

Hey all! I'm looking to put a set of round core, round wound pure nickel strings on my Epiphone Rivoli (same as Gibson EB-2, 30.5" scale). Any recommendations? In my guitar playing life I use Pyramids, but I can't find info on whether Pyramid's offering (blue pack) is round core or hex. I...

    Warwick Jonas Hellborg Bass Questions

I really like the look of the Warwick Jonas Hellborg signature bass, but this thing confuses me. Does anybody on here own one and can answer a few questions for me? There is weirdly little info about it out there, and even using the search function on this forum brings up very little, if...

Do I just not like compressors, or am I doing something wrong?

I've been playing bass "around the house" for years. Vintage Fender basses. I'm a guitar player, but finally getting into a gigging situation on bass. So I bought a compressor, because supposedly "you need one". And also because the flat pole pickups on my old basses emphasize certain strings...

    Dogal Flats vs. Thomastik

I tried to read up on this, but can't really find an answer. Please accept my apologies if this has been discussed. I am a longtime Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats user. They are on all my basses (vintage Jazz and Precision basses). To me, these strings do not wear out. The set on my '59 P-Bass has...

Early 1950s P-Bass, anybody here with first hand experience?

Hi, I'm a noob here, just a hobby bass player. I just acquired a 1953 P-Bass, first generation slab body. These have a flat pole single coil pickup (obviously). Due to the 7.25" fingerboard radius, the two outside strings are significantly closer to the magnetic pole pieces than the center...

What sounds like a 4X10 Bassman, but can handle more power?

Hi guys, I'm new here. Thanks for having me! I'm a guitar player who just dabbles on bass around the house and at the occasional jam. I have a couple of old P-Basses and a fretless Jazz Bass. I'm not into what would be considered "modern" bass tones, and I don't need a ton of power. I also...
