    Steve Harris technique

I don't what Steve does but I play it with two fingers... It's pretty hard but still possible. And seems like Steve does too, at least in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9OAfOwTZaU :D

    Steve Harris technique

I know, what I meant was that if you play very close to the bridge, it's almost impossible to get the strings hit the frets to get the "clanky" sound... At least I can't do it :D

    Steve Harris technique

Yeah, of course you have to play with the right technique too (tried the bass a few days ago) but the signature is the closest replica of his bass available. If you play with the excact same techinque as Harris does but use a fretless Warwick or something like that, you won't get the same...

No, he doesn't. Check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOBLk6VHgJc

    Three or Four fingers?

I also learned to play with only three but sometimes you might need all four. I almost wasn't able to play with my pinkie at all, it kind of locked from the joint. Then I practiced it for some time and now I can play with it. Still feels pretty unnatural but it's easier now and really useful in...

    Guitarist gone bass...

Yeah, I remember when I changed to bass, it felt huge. Then, after not touching guitar in a few months, guitars felt like tiny toys :) And about the amount of fingers you use: just use the ones you feel comfortable with. I have never liked playing with three fingers so I play with two. It's not...

    Steve Harris technique

Here are the things I can think of that would make you sound more like Steve: - Flats (maybe his custom rotosounds if you really want the exact same tone) - EQ settings: much high but some low too, something like 3 low, 5 mid and 7 high. Experiment and you'll find what works for you - Try to...

Ok, so practicing isn't really necessary :) Hopefully the neck goes well because it's absolutely the hardest part to build...

    Finnish Bassists Club

Practising is really important for a first-timer, especially if you're gonna use some expensive woods. Just take some really cheap wood (I think you can get some from school for free) and make a quick copy of the bass you're going to build. I think it's better to mess up with a cheap or free...

    Who here's Finnish?

Ehm... If I ever use some other username than the ones I use now, I'm definitely gonna google it before registering anywehere with it :D

    Finnish Bassists Club

So I must be number 28. From Vantaa if anyone's interested... I'm gonna start a bass project soon too, at school. It's gonna be all-wenge :hyper: It's my first project so I need to practice a little before I can start doing it. So you (and I) will have to wait some time. Will probably start...

The Big Free Music Related Software Thread

Just use some good equalizer. Transcribe! is a pretty good software for that. iTunes also has a surprisingly good equalizer. Just experiment with different settings and you'll find the best one for you. Mixing of the song also affects the outcome a lot.If the mix is bad, you won't have very good...

    What woods to use?

That's not a bad idea at all... I think I can even get some woods for free. Wenge really is too rare and expensive to mess up with...

    What woods to use?

:smug: Sorry, is there any way you can forgive me? I'm gonna follow your project very closely too, sounds really interesting ;) My project is gonna start in a few months if everything goes right. However, I have one problem: there's also the possibility that I'd order it from some...

    The "I like Trivium" club

The Crusade (album) is ok, I own it and occasionally even listen to it, but everything else Trivium has made sucks big time :scowl:

Which would you upgrade first? An amp or a bass?

I'd get a better bass because I usually play without an amp. However, if I'd have lots of gigs where I have to play through my own amp, I'd propably buy the amp first. So if both suck, getting a better bass won't make your sound better when played through an amp but getting a better amp would...

    What woods to use?

Ok, I decided it to be all-wenge. However, I haven't bought the wood yet so you still have some time to make some recommendations if you feel it's necessary. Merry Christmas to everybody :D

    would/do you play for food?

I'd play even for free, I like playing on stage. So if I would even get some food as a reward, even better :)

What websites do you use to look up wood characteristics?

I use Warmoth too, though a site with a little more information for some of the woods would be nice...

    1st build a five

I really like the look of those 2 woods combined... And the logo... Why not? I think custom logos are cool (gonna do one to my project too)

    What woods to use?

Thanks! Wenge seems to be a really nice wood, will probably do the bass all-wenge... I just read that thread of yours a few hours ago :) Looking nice, I even subscribed to it ;)

    What woods to use?

Of course :) I've already decided that the neck will be all-wenge... Swamp ash, alder, bubinga, mahogany and walnut seem to be the best for the body. I'll also consider the all-wenge bass if somebody (who owns or has played one) tells it's good, otherwise no. I'll edit my first message to...

    What woods to use?

Thanks! If wenge is really hard to work with, I'll definitely choose another wood because my design for the body is pretty hard to do - even with the easiest possible wood :)

    What woods to use?

Thanks! Will definitely ask him what it's like :)
  27. L

    What woods to use?

Yeah, I'd definitely chamber it and if it was heavier than other woods after chambering, I think the tone is worth the weight :) And a maple layer is a really good idea, it would balance mahogany's warm sound. And then maybe a wenge neck with bubinga fretboard or something like that...
  28. L

    What woods to use?

Not a bad idea but I'd rather not use any maple because I'd have to finish it and I think that unfinished necks are better than finished ones. And money is no problem, the neck would cost about $300-$400 and the body would be pretty cheap 'cos I'll do it myself :) Do you think that a mahogany...

    What woods to use?

I'm going to build my first custom bass but before I can start making it, I need to choose the woods... So I thought that maybe some of you more experienced guys could help me choosing good woods for it :) So here are the woods I've considered using: Neck will be all-wenge, protest if you...
