How many cars have you owned and driven?

Owned? Hmm let's see: 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - Had it for a few months, sold to a friend and the brake lines went the day of the sale... Friend had it for about a year then threw a rod. 1991 Acura Integra GS - Had it for just under 4 years. Best 1k I ever spent on a vehicle. Had some...

    Sire P5 replacement pots

Good morning. Picked up a Sire P5 5 string a few months back but I am having constant issues with the tone pot being scratchy/causing distortion at times. Looking for a direct replacement of the pots, and the input jack as well to be safe. What are some brands/harnesses that are a direct...

Beautiful bass! I had one just like this and sold it to a TB'er about 15 years ago or so. I'd buy another one if it was a 5-string!

I need to get back to flats I always liked how they felt but I haven't had them on a bass in years.

    Sire Bass Club!

I've heard some critiques of the stock tone pots that Sire has rolled out. I haven't played this enough yet to really formulate an opinion on whether or not it's limited but it seems to be fine so far.

    Sire Bass Club!

Snagged this beauty from Sweetwater last week and finally got my hands on it. Plays like a dream and has a great tone! However, I had to clean the tone pot with some contact cleaner as it was super scratchy sounding when I adjusted it while playing a note. Now it's just about dead quiet. :hyper:

    Gig Report: 3/19

    Gig Report: 3/19

Thank you! I was debating playing the V7 or the M5, but I usually go to the M5 as it just checks the boxes and weighs nothing.

    Gig Report: 3/19

Greetings, ladies and gents! Played a few shows last weekend with the guys, and had an absolute blast! Sunday night we were at Dead Dog Saloon down here in Murrells Inlet, SC. Had a bit of a slow first set, but soon picked up in the subsequent sets and we got the people groovin'. Had a guest...

NBD: Sire M5 Transparent Blue Satin - 5 String

I do still own out and I love playing it. Gig duties have been split between the two. I haven't noticed any fret sprout, but my luthier hasn't checked it yet I need to get it in for a setup at some point.

    5-string recommendation

Sire M5 is a great fiver that can be had at a decent price. Check Thomann

Is the best technique the one that comes naturally?

I remember taking lessons and always being frustrated about my crooked pinkies. Over time, I adapted and just used 3 fingers on my fretting hand but since I started playing on a fiver, I've grown more comfortable using the pinky and it is getting stronger. The moral of this reply is this: Do...

Drunk guy didn't like my playing.

SBB gets wild during fall and spring bike rallies. Lot's of drunken shenanigans going on. Beaver Bar is a good spot to play on their outside stage. Crowd can be hit or miss. Played up at MOTOs last night in North Myrtle, really enjoy the crowds alot more in North Myrtle Beach. They tip better...

It is quite the experience down in the Inlet. Dead Dog Saloon is where all this went down, which is surprising because it's more of a family bar/restaurant instead of a straight up dive.

What do you eat the day of a big gig?

I usually order after a gig, and pickup a Marco's Pizza right before they close for the night.

Drunk guy didn't like my playing.

I was unaware that they had approached our drummer on break, and didn't find out about them hassling the bar staff until the show was over. There's only so much you can do/say when it comes to drunken nimrods. I chose the "moral highroad" and he stormed off... This experience, and reading these...

Drunk guy didn't like my playing.

Hey everyone, wanted to share a rather bizarre story that happened to me last week at a gig. We were going through the third and final set at a bar/restaurant, business as usual. IIRC, it was the first night of 4 consecutive shows. As were rapping up a song, the crowd is cheering, people are...

Being in a band that never rehearses..

I appreciate the responses, When I initially joined, he gave me a list of songs and I learned them, but it seems lately he just pulls new ones out of thin air mid-gig, I guess it's part of the territory. Forgot to mention we do play certain requests, and I just follow along. It's not a bad...

Being in a band that never rehearses..

Not sure if any of my fellow keepers of the low-end experience this. Last August, I filled in for a band, ended up becoming the permanent bassist. Great group of guys. Easy-going, good pay, most songs aren't that complex. However, the BL (Guitarist/singer) throws us all curveballs each and...
  31. bassplayer1494

Played a set this weekend that should have been fun but now feel drained and unmotivated.

Felt the same way last weekend. Fill-in drummer was great, but the BL kept throwing us curveballs the entire gig. Songs we never did before. It's not out of the ordinary as we never rehearse, just show up and play, but still.. It got to me. Had a couple f ups, my VT bass pedal also decided to...

What is the stupidest thing a band mate has said to you?

I played for a group a few years back, it was a mowtown/funk/hip-hop/pop-rock type of group... The BL was very controlling about a lot of things. From telling me what to wear to shows (everything had to be color-coordinated), to how to play my instrument.. It was frustrating and needless to...

    Live gigging combo recommendations

Another option worth looking at IMO would be a Markbass CMD102p. 300w of power w/o the extension speaker cab, and only weighs about 40lbs. I just got one last week from the classifieds on here and gigged with it last night.. Sounded awesome!
