    Going beyond the root?

Here is what I've learned so far; 1. Roots 2. 5ths 3. Sharps and flats in between (if the song goes from a to b, throw in an a# in between sometimes 4.Get your hands on the vocals melody, and throw in some back up notes to it.(Robert deleo does this a lot, and it sounds great) 5. +1 to...

    Help with proper plucking

When I play a riff and it moves on to something else, or when I have a repeating riff, my plucking fingers want to restart back to the index finger like they want to be coordinated with my fretting hand. This seems to be the case wether I'm plucking with 2,3,or 4 fingers. Am I supposed to...

Anyone bring a spare MIXER to gigs?

if you are playing a gig for drinks, or for a few hundred bucks, I dont see the need. But If you are serious, playing out as much as possible, and really have the need for your gigs to go super smooth no matter what, then the more gear the better

Exercises for longer notes, better rhythmic stability and better hands coordination

Sounds to me like all those problems stem from simply going too fast for yourself. Slow it down and work your way up.

Just Finished Nut For My SX

Any raw wood will change in some manner, unless you keep it in a humidor. Gotta put something on it. A small piece like that, soak it in tung oil for a bit, and be done with it.

Veneer Idea for all you builders

I'm a finish carpenter, and just did some work that made me think it would look great on a guitar. It was BLEACHED, quilted maple (bookmatch, A3-4 quality), with pommel sapele accent (A2). Looks like clouds with flame. Absolutely insane, and I wish I took a pic. Just figured I'd throw the idea...

    Talkbass instead of practicing

I find it nice when I'm doing hand exercises on the bass. Hands start to burn, get on the comp and read up until the hands are ready to go again.

sXe Straight Edge Bassists Club(unless there is one already?)

To all the "straight edgers" who think they are being different; I got news for you- you are not a "rare" species. Plenty of people in this country (i would say the majority, including me) dont do drugs, and dont get drunk. This country is very religious, and most of those folks would be...

    HAae Me For Asking...

one way to put it, is that locking in with the drummer kind of means that you are almost a second drumline to compliment his. That helped me to understand it better.

    practice anyone?

In northeast connecticut, it seems like most of the bands at the bars on sat night just plain count on everyone being drunk.

    Earplugs?

Ok, makes sense now. I was thinking it had something to do with training:D we practice at the lowest volume possible; just bringing everything up to the drums. Being an avid shooter, our sound isnt even close to that.

    Earplugs?

May sound like a dumb question to some of you, but why am I being told to wear earplugs for practice? What does this benefit? thanks

HELP - STP - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart

Yeah, I know I'm not spot on, but the rest of the guys cant tell. They look at me funny when I tell them I'm irritated that I havent gotten it quite right. And you are right, when I screw up I'm screwing up by playing it the way it was played already in the song, so no one notices, but it...

HELP - STP - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart

if only stp released books. I've been learning plush for a while now, and it seems that every time I think I have it right, I notice missing notes. It gets quite irritating when there isnt even standard notation to go by. I dont think I'll bother with any more stp, as I barely get the time to...

    Injury or just muscle pain?

I would say it all depends on what you have been doing. If you've been doing basically the same thing for the past six months and this just popped up, its an injury. But if there is something new, it could be just your hand adjusting. Try to figure out what you have been doing differently, and...

    Guitarist gone bass...

Best piece of advice in the thread. I'll have to remember to leave my emotions at the home page if I'm gonna be posting here:hiding: It is not like I'm practicing only this however. I just wanted some advice for getting better at it. I'm doing plenty of other things, I've picked out some nice...

    Guitarist gone bass...

the entire reason why i want to learn this first is so that down the road i dont have to do what you said you had to do.just seems logical to me that more is better, and even if it takes me months longer to get started, it should be worth it in the end.

    Guitarist gone bass...

Good afternoon to you too. I am talking about the plucking hand, I'm quite proficient with my fretting hand from playing the guitar, and im just about acquainted with the massive fret spacing on the bass.

    Guitarist gone bass...

Hey all, I'd like to introduce myself. I am a guitarist that has turned bassist this past month. I've always thought the bass was a simple instrument, some dude just playing along the roots, until I started looking into it, and watching some sick bastid shred picking with four fingers. So now...
