Deceptive video of the resonance block. They're using a rolling shutter, like on those videos that show bass strings vibrating with big sine-waves going up and down. The block may indeed resonate, but not at all like the video shows.

Do you want to play it like a bass guitar, or learn to play it like (and start to sound like) an upright? And if you want to "get into" upright, factor in some lessons to learn proper technique, or it'll just be a prop that looks cool, but sounds like a fretless slab.

Depends on if you're measuring it with ears or instruments! Humans don't hear low frequencies that well (at a certain point, we feel them more than hear them), but I bet an elephant would give the prize to the DB hands down!

Finally added a pickup. A cheapie strip from e-bay that I redid the bridge for so that the entire .375" wide strip was covered. To my ears, it sounds pretty good, but if my ears were as good as my hands, I'd have been practicing more and building less... Anyway, this video has me muddily...

Though you won't get a UB sound with an EUB (you'll get an EUB sound), you'll get closest to it if you play it like a UB, so set up some lessons and play with your arm, not your fingers!

This was the piece that used to be behind the round plug in the headstock. The strings passed though, and the allen nuts up top clamped down on the strings. Unfortunately, sometimes they broke part of the string and I'd hear the note getting flatter and flatter as I tuned. Cha-ching!!

The screw-clamp method that I was using to hold the strings up top was damaging/breaking the ebay cheapos I was playing with. I had to trim the balls off the strings in order to get them in. I even had to shorten the ends, snipping the silks, and the strings would lose their wrap tension...

I just read an old post about someone havinging the length of their bass changed from 44" to 42.75". How does one do this without shortening the neck, since the length is determined by the distance from nut to bridge and the bridge is centered on the f-holes?

Duplicated the shape of my Upton neck and fingerboard shape as well as I could.

It folds up to 46" long (string length is 42") and mounts through the sound port on a standard .75" wide bolt head, holding it flush against the wall.

Mimicked a tailpiece at the bottom and put in an adjustable end pin with a rocking foot at the bottom like Eminence has to keep it from rotating.

Strings are clamped in up top. Had a .5" piece of round steel stock. Put 4 holes for the strings and four more holes at 90° that I tapped.
