Funny, I actually heard some Police last night and I thought the same thing. I've actually gotten a "similar" tone boosting my mids all the way up, using a pick, and using the bridge pickup on an Ibanez.

I got my first last year, and Ibanez SR506, after only playing for 3 years. I think I did it out of impulse,but hey, it sounded much better than my 4 string, and I just thought why not? lol

I use prosteel strings, so brightness isn't too much of a problem for me. But if they're nice and punchy, then I'll find a way to make em work. Thanks!
