    My Squier Vintage Modified Precision is probably 30 years old? Sounds, looks, plays perfectly and gets a lot of gig work! I paid $100 used (mint). Great friggen work horse bass.

    Yes heat and sun can affect your neck relief. Enough sun can make the finish look crappy. I'd take a beater and keep to the shade.

    From extensive experience I can tell you, your Squier Precision will be well improved by a perfect setup, medium gauge round wound strings and a pickup upgrade. The Seymour Duncan SPB-1 is a good choice, the Fender Original ('62) noticeably even better, in terms of tone, response to your touch...

    We are devoid of guitarists thankfully, so volume is well controlled and balanced among piano, bass, drums, horns and voices. I'm spoiled.

    Thank you for your explanation. IMHO the metronome can be slowed painfully slow even at a speed that music notation can be mentally processed helping to define measures and rhythmic subdivisions as they go by. I guess the best advice is "whatever can get you there" is the best approach.

    Play traditional jazz. Network with jazz players. Consume the Real Books. A rude awakening and a deep dive into high art! That has been my route with no regrets!

    Isn't it clear to all? The Fender "Imprecise" will be marketed toward Precision users and enjoy dominance in the bass world for the subsequent 60 years only to be replaced again by the classic Precision.

    Yes the Indonesian Squier CVs are right up to par as well! I have an Indonesian Vintage Modified (VM) Precision as well and it is spectacular. If you can grab one of these used, you will do well. In any event, I suggest, you get a Precision. Install your favorite strings, set it up well...
