After reading through this thread, boy, talk about running the gamut! So many people using so many different brands and types of strings.

On my JB, I love love LOVE the Fender 9050L's, but my P is still running the Fender Nickel rounds it came with, which I was surprised by how bright sounding they are.

Yeah, most any string sounds good on a P-bass with a little touch. But Labella Flats would be my choice for getting my favorite P-bass tones. Yeah, TI's do sound good. But I prefer the tension/feel of Labella. If its a 5 string P... then I'd go with Low Tension Flats. Only because I have one and it has a decent "B" string.

That looks like a great bass with the best of both worlds.
Years of use I'm guessing.
That would probably be a severe loss to lose it.

This is not a linear progression, the differences between strings are expanding. Also suits my E string detuner

I have also kept an old set of flats from the 70s that I've meaning to try, but never had the time. Unobtainium now.

I have 3 p basses (all 4 strings though) and my favorites are the Fender 9050L flats.
They cut in the mix like nothing else, no zingy sounds because of my bad technique and they fit well with the rock, blues and disco I play most of the time.

Another precision bass is strung with Ernie Ball cobalt flats, it’s more of a modern sound and very jack of all trades but lacks of character IMO. I use this bass when I have to play many various styles on the same gig. Bass notes from the E string don’t get my guts shaking if I may say.

And my other p bass has some Fender nickel rounds. Pickups are Fender pure vintage 63 and this is my official rock bass. Growls a lot, the mids are over any snare drum and I also use it for disco music when I want to make sure people will dance thanks to its punchy and aggressive character.

Little mistake here : the Fender I use are the stainless steel flats 45-105

Favorite personally would be GHS 3050 regular gauge flats. The tension lets me get the action super low and the wrap is tight for a smooth string feel. Piano like.

Curt Mangan Flatwound strings, unique in that they don’t have silk on the ends. Wish they offered a heavier gauge, these are otherwise similar to GHS.

LaBella 0760M Original 1954 flats, love the heavy gauge and historic connection. These are serious strings. Massive fundamental. Wish they still produced the through body variant of the 0760M.

Also GHS Low Tension Flats are fantastic and although I’ve never tried TI’s I never have to with these.
