What would you consider the “Les Paul” of basses?

Rickenbacker 4003 is the best example of "The Les Paul of basses".

What ever happened to the Fender Meteora...

Played a Silverburst today (plugged in). I loved the sound, night and day between active and passive tones. Active setting was loud! and a lot of tonal choices. Great bass, very nice neck and body felt comfortable (played sitting down). Feels solid and well built. Now how am I gonna come up with...

What ever happened to the Fender Meteora...

The Tequila Sunrise is the first one that caught my attention but now I am loving the 3 color sunburst. I have seen the blue one too in person and it is also beautiful.

What ever happened to the Fender Meteora...

Hopefully they will make these passive as an option, also a short scale version would be really cool. Personally, I don't like the Starcaster headstock (I don't have a problem with the regular Fender headstock). Also, if Squire made these they would be a huge hit. Too expensive as they are now...

What ever happened to the Fender Meteora...

Cool, report back and let us know what you think. Honestly I love the look but there are so many things that I don't like about them that it would take a big price drop for me to consider. I have played one (unplugged) and it was seriously heavy but had a pretty cool vibe and did seem very well...

What ever happened to the Fender Meteora...

Good question, the ones on the Sweetwater website haven't budged as far as I can tell. The two that are at my local guitar store haven't sold either. Relatively few posts here on Talk Bass. Beyond that maybe just a gut feeling I have. I would have thought these would have taken off in a big way...

I do not believe the Meteora basses were a really, really successful launch. I call B.S. on that.

    Fender Player Meteora Bass

I just played a blue one at my local guitar shop (Truetone Music in Santa Monica) (I didn't plug in). First of all: Gorgeous blue paint job with slight metal flake, better looking in person than in pictures. Seemed HUGE (like a Gibson Thunderbird) not necessarily a bad thing but definitely a...

    NBD-Mockingbird Heritage Classic

Great shape, I loved the mockingbird shape ever since I saw Joe Perry playing one in a 70's guitar magazine. Can you explain your creative process and how you came up with this unique design? Definitely "out of the box" thinking on this one. Kudos for creating such an iconic guitar shape.

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

Btw I made this mistake both times so it should be mentioned: The white lead to the jack must be opposite the end pin, in the photo in the instructions that I had this was not made clear and will not work when plugged in. Might be obvious for some but wasn't for me. Hope it helps.

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

Just got my second one for my new Frankenstein p bass build. I love these pick ups and if I can install them, anyone can do it. Very easy, just follow the directions (I also watched a YouTube video which helped).

Gibson, at least they're trying…Les Paul Junior Tribute Bass

Just played one at GC. Liked it a lot, sound was very fat, and resonant and loud even when not plugged in. Coil tapping sounded really good too. I will probably buy one. Only complaint is that the action sucked, strings were a mile off fretboard, but that can be easily fixed.

Does anyone know what brand this body is?

I bought this bass body on eBay about 6 months ago. Seller didn't know anything about the body. Wondering if anyone recognized it. I know it is the shape of a Mosrite or Univox Hi Flyer. Thought it might be a Charvel but after writing to them they told me it wasn't theirs. Any ideas? I...

NBD! Killer Mosrite/ Univox shaped body, Bill Lawrence P bass pickups, Hipshot bridge, custom Chevy Corvette metallic blue, Rotosound Billy Sheehan strings, maple Jazz bass neck, all Fender USA parts (electronics made in the US. Switchcraft Jack. CTS Pots). Sounds great and super lightweight.

    NBD Fender Precision "special edition"

I have been wanting one of these for about a month after playing one at GC one Saturday morning. I like everything about it. I think it was selling for $549 so this lower price makes it even more desireable. Congrats on the new bass (and cool wife!)

    Peavey MegaBass Club

Looking back this was my favorite bass amp that I ever had. Here's a pic from 1990 of me at FM Station in the San Fernando Valley, CA. That's a Peavey MegaBass on top of 2 Hartke 4 x 10 cabs, great rig!

Maple or Rosewood on an Olympic White P bass? (Pictures)

I have only one bass, an Olympic White parts P bass, it's similar to the first bass that my parents bought me in 1978. I like the rosewood fretboard alright but for some reason I really want to replace it with a Maple Jazz neck. What looks better with Olympic White to you?

    Anyone else develop "knob anxiety"?

Yes, I have been wanting to remove my tone knob on my p bass and leave just one knob: the volume. All through the 80's and 90's I had a black p bass with only one volume that controlled active EMG P and J pickups, never missed the tone knob. I don't really play with a lot of finesse, just find a...

Fender Precision Bass question: Does the fretboard material make any difference in sound or anything

Just thought of something: I wonder if Fender themselves have ever addressed why they even offer the choice between rosewood and maple fretboards. Is it (in their opinion) strictly for cosmetic reasons?

Fender Precision Bass question: Does the fretboard material make any difference in sound or anything

One of the oldest arguments... if there is a difference in sound 99.9% of people can't detect it. If anything there is a difference in feel and certainly in looks. Some say Rosewood is warmer and darker and yet some say technically it should be brighter because it' a harder wood. Go with what...

    Shipping bass

I was just told by a shipping company that my Squier bass (in case, approx 48") was too large to ship via USPS and had to go via UPS (which was $100 vs $50) ! What's the deal? I have shipped basses with USPS before! I feel kind of stupid for going along with it rather than leaving and going...
