best lightweight gigging rig for vintage p bass tones?

I’ve put a few rigs through their paces, and have decided on sticking with an AG700 and SL112. It’s light, powerful, portable, sounds great, and isn’t overkill for my needs. Thanks for your help!

Club Bergantino! Let's See Those Rigs!

So, I just bought an Aguilar AG700 amp and cab, and I like it a lot….but I do have a return policy in effect and am very curious about the Bergantino stuff….mainly a Forte HP2 and two Refernce 12’s.. Before I dive in, max out my cc, and get them both side by side to try in person, can somebody...

    My new TH700 and SL112

Had to run an errand, and while I was out, the FedEx guy showed up. My new TH700 and SL112 required a signature, which I wasn’t there to give. So, no NAD today.

best lightweight gigging rig for vintage p bass tones?

Hi friends. Op here again. I think I’m going to buy a few amps to try, and return all but the one I decide I like best. I think I’ll buy a TH700 and a WD800, to compare against my Clarus and AG700. I’ll return whichever I don’t love, and sell any existing amps I own after I decide….until I...

best lightweight gigging rig for vintage p bass tones?

when I first started looking for an amp a while back, that was my first choice. But I kept reading about a problem with them shutting down unexpectedly amd intermittently, and was not able to see that the issue was ever resolved, so I stopped considering them. I wonder if the issue was ever fixed?

best lightweight gigging rig for vintage p bass tones?

I keep reading people describe the Mesa stuff as bright, clinical, and lacking low end punch. I saw some of the cabinet specs, and many of them don’t extend down to 42 Hz. (Freq of the low E). I’m worried they might not have enough low end. As I mentioned, I am more of a roots player, and I...

best lightweight gigging rig for vintage p bass tones?

    1. Wiling to pay for quality 2. Head and cabinet, no combos 3. Lighter is better, but I don’t want to sacrifice tone for weight. That being said, I want to stick with a single cab for now. 4. Small and medium size clubs 5. No real pa support for small rooms, but good pa for medium rooms...

Been looking at those ceramic Berg cabs. I’m very interested. I like the 2x10 as a small, stand-alone cab. Or an Aguilar SL12 or 15

    Lightweight Cabinet rec?

Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, and started playing bass a few years ago. Up until now, my bass playing has solely been in the studio, never live. Well, I finally lined up some live gigs and need a rig. I play a P Bass with flats, and go for an old school soul/Motown/blues...

PJ vs P vs J….please advise!

I’m on the hunt for a 5 string bass. I already own a 4 string Nash P bass, and I like it a lot. I have been wanting a 5 string and decided to take the plunge. At first I was set on a jazz style v, now I’m also considering a pj. I don’t slap, so that “both pickups” sound a traditional j...

Help me pick a 5 string with a vintage vibe

OP here. Thanks for the recs. A bit more info…..I’m interested in a vintage vibe, but the bass doesn’t have to be a replica. I’m ok with modern aspects, I just want the tone to be in the vintage vein. I already own a Nash P Bass, and I really like it. The only thing that stops me from...

Help me pick a 5 string with a vintage vibe

Great idea. However, the reason I was thinking Fender Am Pro is to be able to try a few and find one that speaks to me at the outset. In my experience, parts guitars can go either way….at least with an off the shelf model I can experience the basic instrument first, and return if necessary

Help me pick a 5 string with a vintage vibe

I am looking for my first 5 string. I am hoping to get the best J inspired bass I can. My budget is $3500 and I am considering two options, but am open to suggestions. Option 1 is getting a Sadowsky Metroline 5 Option 2 is getting a Fender Am Pro Jazz V and upgrading the electronics and...

Looking for DI setup to record bass….Preamp pedal vs amp sim?

Hi friends, I have a Nash P Bass, and I really like it. I’ve been recording using a UAD Ampeg B15 sim, and it sounds nice. However, I’m wondering if I might get better results using something like an Origin Effects BassRig? Just curious if anybody who has tried either/both can share their...

Nash basses, are they worth it?

Absolutely true. Quality instruments can be had for less. At one point, I considered a Vintera series bass, but by the time I factored in upgrades in hardware and electronics, the price difference shrank considerably. The Nash gives me all the upgrades I would want in an off the shelf bass...

Nash basses, are they worth it?

@twc1313 I just bought a shell pink Nash PB63 last week. It arrived on Monday. I’ve been playing it since then, and here are my thoughts…..hopefully they will be helpful! I am mainly a 6 string guitar/banjo/pedal steel player. I’ve been making music for 30 years performing solo, playing in...

    Best bass for the studio?

Op here. Thanks for all of the advice. I’m applying all of my knowledge of six string guitar gear buying towards this bass. I know, from my experience with guitars, that I want to buy a top shelf instrument. The suggestions for less expensive instruments are excellent, but I’m pretty much...

    Best bass for the studio?

I am mainly a six string guitarist, banjo, and pedal steel player. Over the past few years, I have transitioned from a performing musician to solely doing session work and film scoring. Many times, I find myself working up a bass part on the piano, and using a midi bass sound or relying on...

    Best bass for the studio?

Hi, I am getting ready to buy my first top shelf bass, which will primarily be for recording. I’ve been going back and forth between J bass or P bass, 4 or 5 strings…. Then I discovered the PJ. I’m looking at a Sadowsky Metroline PJ five string. I’d love to hear what people think of these...

Torn. American Pro II Precision V or 1974 4 Bolt P?

I’m torn. I’m all set to buy a P bass but having trouble deciding between a brand new Pro2 P V or a 74 P. The Am Professional 2 is a five stringer, brand new. I am open to messing around with it, swapping parts if needed, in order to get the sound I’m looking for. It’s also about $1K cheaper...
