So I’m using bass to play “guitar” in a punk/grind band and need suggestions to fake guitar

Thanks for the mention :) I use a Helix and multiple amps with the rig I call a "hyperbass". The Helix has all the effects and sends to allow everything to happen inside the one unit. Using Snapshots on the helix allows me to hit one button and change the configuration of the amps I am using...

Bass lead Two Man Band - Tiger & Dove - New Release

Being that we are just bass, drums, and vocals, we hope you'll check out our latest release. We have solicited advice from the TalkBass community through the years, and it's helped us discover what other artists are doing something similar. along with figuring out our "hyperbass" sound. Please...

Talkbass!! Thanks for helping me find the "hyperbass"!!

Over the years, I have asked Talkbass peeps for opinions and received a lot of good advice, as well as recommendations for bands that do similar things with just bass, drums, and vocals. I have tried various board setups, and it's been like doing Riverdance for me to perform, but I felt I was...

Fender Jazz bass through 4 amps - Link in description

Very satisfying indeed :) WOW, that sounds massive! When you say "too heavy" you're referring to that Ric 4001, right haha! The rig I have has a lot of gear, but is gig ready. Set up is a bit of a checklist, but only one amp gets mic'ed. The rest are DI. The sound person just has to wrap their...

Fender Jazz bass through 4 amps - Link in description

Thank you! Yeah, all bass, drums, and or course, vocals. There is one midi tambourine on the chorus lol.. It's the next batch of songs that get really interesting IMHO... Who needs guitarists? haha ;)

I did not mean to put it in DB section. That was somehow chosen for me. I am looking for the report button. Thank you!

Fender Jazz bass through 4 amps - Link in description

We have found a unique way to use multiple amps to create cords and different fuzz bass sounds. I have attached a YT link to a recording where we used a Fender Jazz (modded Squire, believe it or not) with hum-bucker Jazz pickups and super light strings. Along with 4 different amps. 1. bass amp...

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

It's two Helix pedal boards. One for the bass side and one for the guitar side. Guitar side has an octave up at all times and then there's another octave on a momentary pedal. Tons of sounds. Bass is a Fender Jazz with humbucker Jazz pickups. Live we use two guitar amps with a split signal and a...

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

I thought it was Ernie ball but it was Rotosound steel strings... 66 swing bass 30-85 gauge. We fel very much the same about using the bass to make all of our sounds :)

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

Thank you! We're continuing to dial in some cool sounds using just a bass and it's super fun.

We used Jazz bass humbuckers to record this - No guitars! Thoughts?

Thank you! Much appreciated :) We do like to dirty up the vox on occasion ;)

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

Yes, the lightest gauges and the same bass for both "guitar" side and bass side. This is how we do it live so we keep it pretty close to exactly how we play it. I believe the strings were Ernie Ball for this song. The Rotosound is fine, as long as they are steel strings. Really helps get the...

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

We used Jazz Humbuckers and lightest gauge steel strings available to record the bass and guitar parts... Fender Jazz was the instrument for all bass and guitar sounds.

Would love to hear any feedback or recommendations from the bass community about our two man bass and drums sound ;) Thanks in advance! Rob

What bass should I try out for this sound? Exotics?

A friend of mine uses this in his band and he is the "bass player". I'll see if I can borrow one and try it out ;)

What bass should I try out for this sound? Exotics?

Ahh, that's awesome. Seems many bass players have had some experience playing with just a drummer and seeing how far they can take it. Or maybe out of necessity. Hollow body might get some rough feedback because we use a guitar amp and a bass amp. Bass amp would likely be okay but the guitar amp...

What bass should I try out for this sound? Exotics?

Our two man band uses the bass for both guitar and bass "sounds." I'm continuing to dial in a unique sound and figured some of you might have input on some basses to try.... I have a repainted Fender Squire Jazz (in video), a Fender Precision Deluxe Special and a Fender Mustang short scale...

I remember looking at the HOG2 a while back... I want to try one and I have not had anyone mention the Ventilator. I will look into that one. Thank you for the suggestions!

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

Yes, we want the bass to boom. There are two sides to the et up which allow for a guitar sound and a bass sound. There are certain pedals that keep the bass thumpin' and many more that thin out the bass. Got this one for a ridiculous sale price and it keeps the thunder rollin'. Several options...

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

A legit bass multi effects board would be ideal for gigging and ease of use but we have yet to find anything that matches the individual pedals on the bass side. Will look into this one. Guitar side works well with Helix. Lot's of options there. Bass player started using steel strings. As thin...

Yeah, That's awesome... PJ does know the tricks and she has some rad music coming soon ;)

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

Yes, I have done that. The pulse thing is weird when you're adrenalin gets spiked at a show lol Flashing light works with practice but generally speaking, the actual click in your ears is best when playing with tracks imo.
  29. PUREJOYPEOPLE

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

Okay, I see what you mean. We can do this with Ableton as well, which is fun but it means I will need to be on a click which is less fun lol I have used the click many times so the setup is familiar and we ultimately need to go that route for various reasons.

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

Okay, so using this for the bass sounds rather than using an actual bass rig? We have no problem layering with midi sounds on a full production but we would want to keep the bass and drums aspect...

Effects that make the bass sound like a guitar, synth, and more? Help! ;)

I will post a photo of the bassist's pedal board operation asap... He uses a Helix on the guitar side and a number of pedals on the bass side, including some fuzz and octave pedals. I think he's still looing for that "secret weapon" that defines our sound. I guess I am asking for something that...

We are looking to expand on this two piece drum and bass duo project... some of the effects and techniques are relatively well known by now but we are looking to find our "sound" as we continue to write originals. Starting out with somewhat reimagined covers of our favorite tunes that we can...
