I did this on my first Ibanez Bass, an RB-707. I had it repainted black, and clearcoated with automotive paints about 12 years ago, it still looks great. You can have it powder-coated like the original coating too, I just had easier access to automotive painting gear.

I can measure it for you tomorrow, but it's not actually -that- much thinner, the neck joint still needs strength. The Saber appears thin because the body is kinda tapered, it goes down to about 1.5cms thickness at the top and bottom edges, but in the 'neck line' it is much fatter.

Well... if it's an original colour, it might just not matter... but if it's an obviously non-standard thing, from then on, it's not original anymore.... It's like tuning a mid-range bass with better hardware... you will never get that money back when you resell it :D Not that I plan to sell it...

Does anyone here own a DT-700 destroyer bass? I just scored one offaf epay in project condition, and would need to know the hole spacings for the bridge, so I can find a replacement, as it is missing. Also... project condition in this case means it was readied for a refinish... No paint left :(...

Defo an SR1000, but noone seems to know anything about the colour. The only bit of info I was able to dig up, is that there were a few unique colours made up for a show in Germany, and this may be one of those. Still got it of course, I just wish it had the pointy head shape :)

It's beautiful indeed, there's only two small spots of damage right at the base of the bridge. I have no clue what happened to it, as it's very close to the bridge. Maybe there were some small holes in the wood they patched in the factory and now it's coming out? No idea... But I don't much...

Nope, looks like the pre-silver series JB copies, except it has a rosewood fretboard with white/pearl block inlays, and both the body and headstock are black. It clearly had the chrome PU covers too, evidenced by the screwholes. Here's some pics from the ad:

Anyone following this thread who's into the really vintage Ibbies? Think 70's. I have a 70's Ibby Jazz Bass on it's way to my collection, that is black. Not only is the body black, but the headstock as well, and it -does- have a perfect, white Ibanez logo on it, so it is probably not a respray...

I actually like the blue, but they should've just stained the unstained parts too... maybe use black with an ebony fretboard... But that's just looks... I have not tried a BTB in a while, as the voicing of the first one I tried was so dark and unusable, it put me off of the entire series :(

Good to know, I always thought the japanese ones had the 'pointier' headstock. The ones I found local, I never even went to see, all of them suffered from 'damp wood' cracks that are fairly common for 90's Ibanez stuff :(

What about the one second from the left? Looks like a TR to me... is this one of the few made in japan before korea took over? Bodyshape and headstock shape match the korean stuff at least :)

I forget it gets confusing saying H in international forums :D I honestly really just want an A note (that still has definition to it, hence the long-scale) below the H/B string, that's about the lowest note I see the point of using, and often wish I had.

I'm actually considering having one made custom... I've been toying with the idea of a custom bass for a while, and since I want to go with an F-H-E-A-D tuning, I've thought about getting a long-scale neck, but fanned fret might be more comfortable in this case... I'll definitely try one out...

NVM totally missed the fact it was fanned fret :D So... I'm not really experienced with bass design... but why are the PUs in this (including a lot o other basses too) slanted in this direction? (Closer to the bridge under the low notes.) Experience tells me this makes the low notes sound...
