    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

I did this on my first Ibanez Bass, an RB-707. I had it repainted black, and clearcoated with automotive paints about 12 years ago, it still looks great. You can have it powder-coated like the original coating too, I just had easier access to automotive painting gear.

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

I'll be honest, I don't care for the pink in that swirl (I would've just gone for more green tbh), but if you like it, that's what matters, it's a great bass with a comfy neck, I'm not surprised you like it so much :) I have both the DB700 (this same bass) and the DB800 in stock condition. I...

    Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere Edition

Depends a lot on condition, and where you are. In Europe, I bought mine with fresh tubes and a shock-proof Gator case with extra fans on a rear rack-plate, for 1100 EUR. I consider that a good deal, as the naked amp is generally advertsed around 1200-1300 EUR. I imagine in the Us, where these...

    Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere Edition

Followed your advice and after playing around a bit, I have master at 3/4, and now I can get the gurgling, dirty sound I want. It's absolutely brilliant! :)

    Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere Edition

Hey JimmyM, you seem to be in the know, any ideas what tube I should be looking for to get more crunch out of the drive pot? I think it might have a JAN tube in there, as it's pretty clean, it only really starts to break up around 3/4th of the pot's travel (and I do mean -start-, it's nowhere...

    Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere Edition

That's a relief :D My SVT-II non-pro has no peak led, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Just seems a bit weird that the peak led comes on so soon.

    Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere Edition

Bumpity bump. I just snagged #126 a few days ago. It's supposedly recently tubed (not so sure about it, but owner said so), came in a shock-proof gator rack too. I'm just starting to play with it now, comparing with my non-pro SVT-II, and it does sound great, but I think I'll be swapping the...

    Ibanez Saber Bass SB900,Le,1200, 1500!

I can measure it for you tomorrow, but it's not actually -that- much thinner, the neck joint still needs strength. The Saber appears thin because the body is kinda tapered, it goes down to about 1.5cms thickness at the top and bottom edges, but in the 'neck line' it is much fatter.

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Well... if it's an original colour, it might just not matter... but if it's an obviously non-standard thing, from then on, it's not original anymore.... It's like tuning a mid-range bass with better hardware... you will never get that money back when you resell it :D Not that I plan to sell it...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Yeah, it's a pretty nice chunk of wood. In OK condition, these guys go around 5-600 EUR over here. I got this one for about 250EUR shipped. I'm just worried what a non-original colour would do to it's value... But I am more and more tempted to leave the original wood... maybe even give it a...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Does anyone here own a DT-700 destroyer bass? I just scored one offaf epay in project condition, and would need to know the hole spacings for the bridge, so I can find a replacement, as it is missing. Also... project condition in this case means it was readied for a refinish... No paint left :(...

The Official Warwick Club (Part 6)

Hey guys, I think I figured something out... :D (Joke aside: The Thumb BO BN 6 is my main player in my band, with the Buzzard coming in close second. :) )

Thanks for the tip, just posted it there.

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Yeah I figure that much, I was hoping maybe there's something on the pots or somesuch to date it by, but I didn't find much. I remember reading something on here about a series of these that had the bridge pickup too close to the bridge, this is one of those. I cannot for the life of me find...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

So... any idea how to even remotely date this little beast? It's a PIG :D And yeah, the headstock and body paintjob are definitely factory (though there are a bunch of touch-ups with black paint, that is why the b in Ibanez is shaped a little oddly, body seems to be one piece, or in worst case a...

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

So I actually forgot about another one in the corner of my closet... :D 23, Washburn MB-4 And I got two more this week :D 24, Ibanez SB1500 25, Ibanez Jazz Bass pre-serial number, seemingly unique black colour with matching headstock Nearing insanity here... :D

    Ibanez Saber Bass SB900,Le,1200, 1500!

Weird... there must be some difference... should maybe compare the electronics cavities? Maybe it's something like different shielding (graphite or copper) or different types of pots or somesuch ?
  19. Rattanee

    Ibanez Saber Bass SB900,Le,1200, 1500!

Sounds like I need an SB1200S in that case :D Any kind of SB is pretty rare to see for sale in the EU actually. Do you know what the difference is between SB900 and SB900LE? (With the Roadbass 808, the regular flavor has three pots, and the LE [or was it SE there?] has a switch that basically...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Yeah, I want all the MIJ basses with the pointed headstock. I have a PL5050, am looking for the PL4040. I missed one a few months ago on reverb, but it would've been too expensive after customs, and the seller didn't really want to go lower with the price... was a butt ugly colour too lol...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Defo an SR1000, but noone seems to know anything about the colour. The only bit of info I was able to dig up, is that there were a few unique colours made up for a show in Germany, and this may be one of those. Still got it of course, I just wish it had the pointy head shape :)

    Ibanez Saber Bass SB900,Le,1200, 1500!

Are there more? I thought it was just the 900, 1200 and 1500. I realize there's an LE of the 900, and an S of the 1200, but I have not been able to spot any actual differences between them, so it's like the Roadbass 808... there is a regular and an LE, but I'm content only owning an LE :D...

    Ibanez Saber Bass SB900,Le,1200, 1500!

I had an SB900 for little over a year now, but now I've got an 1500 too... it's an amazing bass, heavy as mud tho', even despite how thin it is. Nevertheless, if anyone wants to sell a purple SB1200, do let me know, so I can complete my SB collection :D (No black or red, somehow most of my...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

It's beautiful indeed, there's only two small spots of damage right at the base of the bridge. I have no clue what happened to it, as it's very close to the bridge. Maybe there were some small holes in the wood they patched in the factory and now it's coming out? No idea... But I don't much...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

So aside from the JB (still en route), I had another bass coming, that I didn't really want to brag about till it was here... But... my precious just arrived today... :D I got a great SB1500, and an age-appropriate case (with a half-broken handle, thanks DPD couriers) for my '77 Silver Series...

The "wall of the caseless" is finished... the first one anyways :D
  28. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Well, I gues it'll get a dark-grey pickguard... or maybe I'll end up turning this one somewhat custom with gold hardware or somesuch... I'll figure it out eventually, it's on it's way to me now. The outer box may have been overkill, but better safe than sorry. :D
  29. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Nope, looks like the pre-silver series JB copies, except it has a rosewood fretboard with white/pearl block inlays, and both the body and headstock are black. It clearly had the chrome PU covers too, evidenced by the screwholes. Here's some pics from the ad:

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Anyone following this thread who's into the really vintage Ibbies? Think 70's. I have a 70's Ibby Jazz Bass on it's way to my collection, that is black. Not only is the body black, but the headstock as well, and it -does- have a perfect, white Ibanez logo on it, so it is probably not a respray...

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

I actually like the blue, but they should've just stained the unstained parts too... maybe use black with an ebony fretboard... But that's just looks... I have not tried a BTB in a while, as the voicing of the first one I tried was so dark and unusable, it put me off of the entire series :(

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Good to know, I always thought the japanese ones had the 'pointier' headstock. The ones I found local, I never even went to see, all of them suffered from 'damp wood' cracks that are fairly common for 90's Ibanez stuff :(
  36. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

What about the one second from the left? Looks like a TR to me... is this one of the few made in japan before korea took over? Bodyshape and headstock shape match the korean stuff at least :)
  37. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

I forget it gets confusing saying H in international forums :D I honestly really just want an A note (that still has definition to it, hence the long-scale) below the H/B string, that's about the lowest note I see the point of using, and often wish I had.
  38. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

I'm actually considering having one made custom... I've been toying with the idea of a custom bass for a while, and since I want to go with an F-H-E-A-D tuning, I've thought about getting a long-scale neck, but fanned fret might be more comfortable in this case... I'll definitely try one out...
  39. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

Oshi*... totally missed the fact it was fanned fret lol... I need to try one one of these days...
  40. Rattanee

    The Ibanez Club (Part 6)

NVM totally missed the fact it was fanned fret :D So... I'm not really experienced with bass design... but why are the PUs in this (including a lot o other basses too) slanted in this direction? (Closer to the bridge under the low notes.) Experience tells me this makes the low notes sound...
