    Markbass Micromark 801 Opinions?

Sorry, I'm not a regular on this forum. What was the question? I'm very happy with the 801 - not only does it sound great at rehearsals, it also works well as as stage monitor for my ampless guitar set up, sounds great as an acoustic guitar amp and sounds good with my Yamaha keyboard. I had no...

    Tip the sound tech?

The last gig I played where there was a really good sound guy, I understand the organizers paid him about EUR 175 for a few hours work. While the band put in far more time on rehearsals and practice than the sound guy, we were paid nothing. I don't really understand the social pressure to tip...

Bass player's role in the band

A good guitarist can generally handle both lead and rhythm (like lots of trios), but if you are covering a song that has chords accompanying the lead, the song can sound pretty lifeless without the background coloring and volume provided by guitar, keyboard or vocals. It's not a question of...

Are you a plug in and play bassist?

Yep, plug and play here. Bass->PA, no pedals, basta. I wish guitar were as easy.

Poll - do you bring your amp and cab to each rehearsal?

For rehearsals, I don't care. If there's an amp available, I'll use that. Otherwise I'll bring my Mini Mark 801. For gigs, I always go straight to PA and don't use an amp. In the apartment I use a headphone amp.

Help me to be heard in a gig haha!

What kind of places will you be playing? For restaurants and such you'll probably need an amp, for bigger stages, not so much. i had maybe 15 gigs this year, and didn't need an amp for a single one. PA worked perfectly FOH, but sometimes I had problems hearing myself in the stage monitor.

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Well, we had the gig and the results were mixed. The guitar went into its own input through a pedal with direct out. Nothing special, but it sounded ok. I had no control over volume, which was a bit unnerving. The acoustics in the church were a major issue - people in the front could hear us...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Some background: We're playing 10 songs in a huge gothic church. Bass, electric guitar, keyboard, cajon & snare drum plus four singers. There is a single electrical outlet for the whole sound system. 300-800 guests are expected. I'm playing rhythm and lead guitar on only one song - Stairway to...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

A nest of angry bees is definitely not the sound I want. ;) I can't really test any of this until our general rehearsal on Wednesday. Plan A is to piggyback the bass channel, Plan B is use line out from my multieffect pedal to a separate channel on the mixer, Plan C would be to mic a small...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Thanks for all the suggestions. There are a lot of factors involved in this, so I'm shooting for the simplest solution that's acceptable soundwise. Goatrope suggested this chain: Guitar/bass-> multieffect pedal with mute function -> Boss LS-2 -> DI box -> PA I can run the bass through this...

Good but reasonably priced DI ?

At most of the gigs I've played this year, we had professional sound guys setting everything up. Just for fun, I noted the DI boxes the different venues used. So recently I've played through these DI boxes: Radial Engineering SB-1 €95 Radial Engineering JDI €277 LD Systems LDI 02 €45...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

I have a gig next week where I need to bring an electric guitar in addition to my bass. 90% of my play time will be on bass, but about 10% of the gig will be on guitar. I will probably have what feels like 10 seconds to put down the bass, grab the guitar and start playing. I run my bass, with...

Two basses, one amp. What’s the best A/B pedal to switch between the two?

I think the Boss LS-2 would work for that. Also very good as a volume boost!

Why did you quit a band?

in what kind of gig does one wait hours after soundcheck to start? Almost all the gigs I do. Tomorrow sound check at 11:30am, we play from 4:50 till 6pm. That's over 5 hours of thumb twiddling. Last week sound check at 1pm, we played from 5-6pm. They're generally community events, so kids'...

Why did you quit a band?

I love rehearsals, I love gigs, I don't like waiting around for hours after the sound check.

    Our singer is bad

I've got a gig on Thursday and the band asked me to sing a couple of songs that I think are beyond my range. My voice feels quite strained. I told them I don't think they sound very good, but I'll sing them if they want. They want. However it goes, I figure I'm gaining some valuable stage...

    Behringer/Sansamp ADI21: distortion and profiles/settings suggestions.

My AdI21 sounds fine with a passive bass. But I don't turn it on, and just use it as a passive DI Box. I switch on the pedal/ preamp when using it for an acoustic guitar. I don't even know if it needs a battery when used as a DI Box. (I have one in, just in case).

Going direct for the first time and am a bit nervous

All my gigs have been direct to PA - it's convenient and sounds good. I always bring my own DI Box, but sound engineers generally ask me to use one of their boxes. Stage volume has been the only real issue - if they have wedges, you have to speak up during the sound check to make sure you can...

Small combo for audible practice / travel

I have the Micromark 801 which I got for quiet rehearsals. It works well and sounds like a real bass amp. For gigs, I just go direct to PA through a DI box.

    Markbass Micromark 801 Opinions?

I used it today as a backup, just in case the stage monitors didn't work. But the sound engineer was able to get the bass in the wedges, and as he turned the volume up, the sound of the Minimark gradually disappeared. But I was satisfied, because I could hear myself quite clearly, which was the...

    Markbass Micromark 801 Opinions?

Today we have an outdoor gig and no experienced sound engineer, so I will be using the 801 for the first time as a stage monitor, to minimize the risk of not hearing myself, and send the output to the PA.

Music room in an apartment or condo - ideas and inspiration?

As a condo owner, I feel your pain. Noise levels are always an issue. The only time I can really turn things up is in a rehearsal room or on stage. Everything else is with headphones.

    Hearing Loss and Ear Plugs

I have custom-moulded ear plugs with, I think, -9 or -15db filters. They cost about €200. I'm happy with their performance. That's cheap compared to the €9,000 a friend had to spend on his hearing aids.

    Soundcheck vs. actual live sound?

Today we had an open-air performance with an older audience of maybe 150 people (really hard to guess numbers). I was told by the band leader that everything we needed should be there. I showed up with only my bass and a guitar cable, and hoped for the best. Played a few notes on the bass...

    Soundcheck vs. actual live sound?

I didn't see it as a gamble - I was told there were professional sound engineers and that sound wedges would be on stage. So yes, I just showed up with a bass, a guitar chord and an XLR cable and it was fine.

    The Fender 7250m Fanclub

Another reason I like the 7250's, in addition to their sound and feel, it the fact that the nickel plated steel is apparently easier on my P-bass's soft frets then steel strings. I'd prefer to avoid strings that chew through the frets.

    The Fender 7250m Fanclub

I'm a fan of 7250's. The local shops seem to be out of stock and say they'll be restocked in mid-October (about 4 1/2 months from now). I'm now looking into alternatives - maybe Daddario EXL170 or Rotosound RB45 Roto Bass. Any suggestions?

    Keeping roundwounds clean and fresh.

I have very corrosive skin chemistry, and can kill a set of uncoated guitar strings in a few hours. So now I only use coated Elixirs for my electric guitars, and they last about a year before they lose their intonation. I bought a Fender P-bass on a lark in 2015 (due to my frustration at not...

Newbie - looking for first bass amp

In what context will you use the amp? For solo practice or acoustic rehearsals a small amp should be fine. If you're playing with a loud drummer, you will need as much power as you can get. For performances where there is a good sound system, you don't need an amp at all, just a cable and a DI Box.
