What to do with my bass neck?

Also, if this is in the wrong spot then let me know and I'll try to move it. I was torn between this forum and the luthier's forum.

What to do with my bass neck?

Like most people, I now have a lot of free time do work on projects. The first project I want to tackle is an old Oscar Schmidt P bass I have that someone ripped the frets out of. I see two ways of proceeding. 1. Fill in the frets and make the bass fretless. How hard is this to do? is there a...

So will the BH2's have a better or worse high-end response compared to the MK1s?

    The Soundgear Club

Can anyone weigh in on the differences between the MK1 Barts and the BH2s? I own an SR500, and am looking at picking up one of the new SR505E, but am curious about the difference in sound. Thanks.

Did Ibanez say when they were releasing their bass line? Specifically the SR 655E?

    Flats and playing live

Oh how I would love to say this without making the piano player and organist mad.

    Flats and playing live

And that's what I've worked on avoiding. I actually cut a bit of bass to try and cut back on the boominess. I also crank the mids and treble. I ask people who sit out in the audience and they say they can't hear my bass.

    Flats and playing live

That's what I'm discovering. Flats sound great in the bedroom or in appropriate recording contexts. But live? You need rounds.

    Flats and playing live

Heavy, with the organist using foot pedals consistently.

    Flats and playing live

That's exactly how it's run. Everything flat.

    Flats and playing live

I'm thinking more they don't know how. It's a new board, but the sound people working now didn't set it up, so they aren't entirely familiar with fine tuning the channels.

    Flats and playing live

We're hopefully getting some people from Sweetwater to come and help us get everything really set up. The board as it sits now was set up by a guy who ran sound for musical theatres, so I'm not convinced it's optimally set up for a more concert-like setting. I'd love for flats to work. But...

    Flats and playing live

I haven't thought of that. Sometimes I would solo the neck pickup for songs that needed a P-bass type sound, but never the bridge. The SR500's bridge pickup is kind of thin sounding, so maybe I would add a little extra bass. Thanks for the suggestion!

Do you have a set you would recommend? I never see any sets outside of talkbass, except for the Dadarrio Black Nylons at GC.

    Flats and playing live

I've tried dead nickels and just felt like something was missing. I felt like I could cop a dead round close enough on the Chromes.

    Flats and playing live

The signal path is bass =>GK MB 200 D.I. => Board. We have really good sound guys and girls who do live sound for other bands.

    Flats and playing live

My main gig is at a church. So a lot of organ, synth, piano, drums, guitar with heavy effects, etc. A very dense mix for sure.

    Flats and playing live

I'm using Elixir Nickels for now. I enjoy the different tone, but they just don't have that finger comfort like I get from flats.

    Flats and playing live

From what I've read, GHS Flats are really warm. Wouldn't that just worsen the problem? Or with flats do you just need to lean into having a warm tone?

    Flats and playing live

Let me start by saying I love flats. I have a set of Chromes on my Ibanez SR500 and love them. The feel, the sound, and even the tension just feels right to me. At home. In a live context? Complete disappointment. The warm and focused sound at home turns to mush and just gets buried under...

    Tablets for live work

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" that I use for music/lyrics. The app I use is called MobileSheets Pro. It's pricey, but it's incredibly powerful. It doesn't support .doc extensions, but it's easy enough to convert .doc into a pdf through Word.

Looking for a step up in brightness from D'addario nickels

I feel like at this point it's a lot easier for me to dial out what I don't need in brightness than cranking my treble and high mids. Unless I'm sorely mistaken. I'm no string expert.

Looking for a step up in brightness from D'addario nickels

What about fingerstyle? I don't really play with a pick.

Do you have a set you would recommend me to try first?

Looking for a step up in brightness from D'addario nickels

The title says it all really. I'm just looking for something with a little more brightness. I don't need a super bright string, just something with a little bit more high end. I play all sorts of music, but mostly where a brighter tone is preferred. I play an Ibanez SR500 into a GK-112-II. The...

    New Acoustic Classic Combos.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Haven't seen a thread on these yet. I'm excited to try them, especially the 100 Watt combo. I had a little 30-watt combo from them for my first amp that I loved. They also have a new 410 and 115 cab as well. Thoughts?

That's honestly how I'm feeling most Sundays. It's a little demoralizing to know that all my practicing each week isn't really being heard. I know deep down it's potentially a pride issue of wanting to be heard, but I also think bass can and does help a worship experience. The way I've dealt...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

My full set is as follows SR500/w Chromes > GKMB110 (for ears on stage) > Post EQ DI to sound board > Whatever the sound guy is doing I keep my bass flat for the most part, and adjust the GK to actually hear myself on stage.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Thanks for the response. I should have added in my first post that I'm going from my bass into a GKMB110, post eq to the board. So I have no actual control of my sound other than the adjustments I can make on my bass, which I'm thinking about trying. I enjoy a midrangey sound anyway, so a deep...

Both the organist and the pianist are incrediby busy in the bass clef, especially the organist because she has those bass pedals that are just a wall of lower frequencies. This is a church that only recently moved from being piano/organ/choir only to letting other instruments play. I feel like...

I appreciate the in depth response, and I agree that it doesn't make sense to keep instruments in a their own certain range. The problem is going to get him to try something different. I'll try to record this Sunday's service as an example.

Thanks for the response! My technique is something I'm always trying to improve on, so I certainly won't rule that out as part of the issue. As for the bass line construction, our worship leader purchased digital sheet music for the Baptist Hymnal, so every song we play has a bass/cello sheet...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Thanks for the response! I'm running into a GKMB110 for my 'ears' on stage. Our sound guy takes the D.I. signal post EQ, which I wonder if that might be part of the issue. I really enjoy a mid boosted bass sound, so it's certainly not a scooped issue. The organist has her own volume...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Hey all, longtime lurker and first-time poster. My question for y'all is what strings do you use currently for your worship team? The reason I'm asking is that I recently started attending a church that is a much more traditional worship service where we only really do hymns and other more...
