There are very, very few Jabbas that I don't like!! This isn't one of them  Congrats!!!

Ordered a fret file block. It is magic!

Could you show the "gizmo" (instead of the bass)? Or provide a link!? Thanks!!

    Help with identifying strings

Thanks so much! This is really appreciated (and also pointing out my incorrect use of "exposed core"). I have never tried these kinds of strings (i.e., taperwounds) or this specific make before. Indeed, I have so far been underwhelmed by flats, but I must confess, these here are really good.

New addition - same awesome feel and playability, just now without the frets ;)

    Help with identifying strings

Fair point! I had thought that my description might be enough... I also thought that especially the exposed core is going to narrow it down... Here are the pics:

    Help with identifying strings

I received a new bass and couldn't - so far - get more info on the strings. It's a fretless and the strings are flats. They have color-coded ball-ends, black silks, and an exposed core at the ball end. Does this help you experts in narrowing it down?? Thanks!!

Help in finding production basses with tight H-H pickup configuration ("Kennedy spacing")

Yeah, I am under no delusion that getting this pup configuration (or even his signature bass) is going to make me sound like Kennedy  But, perhaps it gets me closer... and it might be interesting exploring the sound options with my playing style...

Help in finding production basses with tight H-H pickup configuration ("Kennedy spacing")

Some really good points there. Yeah, initially I thought the Sadowsky looked very close to a "standard" jazz, but the pup position is described as "modern" (bridge and middel). I probably also prefer soapbars to fullblown Musicman pups.

Help in finding production basses with tight H-H pickup configuration ("Kennedy spacing")

Thanks for all the input so far - lots to explore already. But, yes, as @LakeEffect hints to, there are subtle (and not so subtle) differences between all these examples (pup spacing, distance to bridge, ...)

Help in finding production basses with tight H-H pickup configuration ("Kennedy spacing")

Ah, yes. Somehow, I didn't have Warwick on my radar at all... Cool!

Help in finding production basses with tight H-H pickup configuration ("Kennedy spacing")

Hey, trying to see whether the combined knowledge residing in here can point me towards production basses (i.e., no custom jobs), which feature the narrow H-H pickup spacing, like in one of Tom Kennedy's signature Foderas (see pic for reference). So, APART from that bass, are there any other...

    Online lessons…again. (I know, ugh)

I can see how it is difficult for you to find an online source that fits your (perceived) level. Bassbuzz is a good option though (as others have stated) to get a refresher on the basics and perhaps it lets you more easily identify your "weak areas". That said, Bassbuzz is very much geared to...

I hear you! I own two 4-strings and two 5-strings from Mayones now. I have owned other 5-strings, but the Jabba and the Patriot are the best 5-strings, in terms of playability alone, that I have tried. Mind you: they share the same neck dimensions and string spacing, so that helps... me, at least 😄

Nice!! A 4-string Patriot is rather seldom, I guess!?! Coincidentally, my Patriot arrived three weeks ago (also from Zjon). It's my first Patriot (I have three Jabbas), and I am still getting to know it. But, it certainly is a fantastic instrument and a good addition to the Jabbas. I like the...

32 years after taking up bass, I’ve finally done it:

Not my music, but huge congratulations for following your dreams and finally arriving at this milestone!! Even though my main musical style may be different, I can recognize a lot of your struggles, decisions and how you felt "age" has given you more experience, maturity and patience to tackle...

Yeah, sorry, I don't slap either 😂 But, Federico Malaman does and he seems to make the Jabba work very well From my limited experience, I would say that Delanos are more punchy than Aguilar pickups. Also, between the choices of pre-amps, I think the Mayones Musashi is the most transparent.

Sweat creating a sticky neck at super hot gigs...

I would absolutely second the recommendation to play with a glove! If you are worried that this looks a little "silly", they come in flesh color and are hardly noticeable. Also, I take "silly" over stressful playing anytime.

TI Jazz Rounds are dangerous. Heed my warning.

I think you are probably right to a large degree... However, the TI JR G string is 43 in gauge, and that's a world apart from a 30 string (which, basically, is a C string on a 6-string). That would be too thin for my taste...

Why are you not cutting a bit more off the silk here? I am genuinely curious (no trolling) as I may miss something here, and might have done something wrong with my strings for a while now... :)

What Bass is Jaco Playing Here?

Certainly wouldn't mind having the chance to play one one of these days! And, yes, total Alembic-vibes 😉

TI Jazz Rounds are dangerous. Heed my warning.

Why didn't you try the TI Jazz Rounds? The Hellborg Dogals are very interesting strings alone because of the way they are constructed), but, personally, I don't like their "feel". I still very much prefer the TI Rounds, which are unbeatable in feel and great sounding a well.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that their level of quality was going down. In fact, I think their instruments are insanely well designed and made. I own three and am very happy with them. I was just wondering whether the "prize" for this are longer and longer wait times, and where the "pain...

Not a huge Yngwie Malmsteen fan but.....

It's hard to say why I don't "like it", but I guess it's just... boring (for me, that is). Just some glam rock - it's all about the hair, the sleeveless tees and the shredding  If it's about lots of notes played on a guitar, I find this just so much more interesting:

    Who owns what.

Get them while you can... they stopped making all these models, "re-branded" Jaguar (new logo) and presented their only model to come out some time in the future. Just that it now has... no class left in it, whatsoever. Boggles the mind, really. It looks like a cupboard where I'd store my...

Hah, and I thought this was a one-off... it has the placement of the controls like the HF signature (not like a standard Jabba), but it has Aguilar pups and their own Mayones pre-amp. The electronics are indeed a bit weaker than the Delanos and pre-amp in the HF models, but not too bad... still...

This came in yesterday. Neck dimensions and string spacing like on a Hadrien Feraud, and with the same control layout as well, but with a different pre-amp and pickups, and without a ramp or pickguard. I have never felt so comfortable with a 5-string bass before - it feels, plays and looks...

NBD: Mayones Cali 4. Small but fun!

No, it doesn't really... I have to say this is based on only 1 week experience with this bass, and it is entirely my personal experience - your mileage may still vary! First, it's a fantastically well-built instrument and I own two other Mayones basses, which are my go-to basses. But, as much...

    What song at your funeral?

There are so many candidates really... I would like the people attending to be moved by the music, but it should also give hope and lift their spirits. The Scandinavians do it best when you want heart-wrenchingly sad, yet hauntingly beautiful stuff: More uplifting because of its soaring...
