    Show us your "parts basses"

Thanks a lot! I'm really pleased with how it turned out. It sounds and feels really great! Btw, Sassafras was used in some mid-1950s sunburst Stratocasters (and perhaps other colours or models?) that we would normally expect to be Alder, so it's not unprecedented to see this in a vintage...

Thanks man! It's actually Sassafras. ;) There was very little waiting for the Avantguard. I didn't order one. I simply checked their website daily (for a week or two) until this one popped up for sale...

Fwiw, here's a couple more photos to give an idea of what I'm looking for.

    Celluloid tortoise pickguards

Fwiw, I've had a Fender Pure Vintage guard on my J-bass, and I now have a WD tortoise one on there now. However, it's still not that close to the real early to mid 60s Fender guards. Some of the Spitfire, Lavaguard and Avantguard ones look really good in photos. Just wondering what experience...

No, I haven't. They sell vintage style celluloid? I'll check them out. Thanks!

I'd better try again with the Sunday crowd. Thanks.

    Celluloid tortoise pickguards

Hi folks, I'd like to get a nicer (hopefully second hand) vintage looking celluloid tort pickguard for my Jazz Bass. Are there any recommendations between Spitfire, Lavaguard, or Avantguard? (Or anyone else...) Here's a photo to give an idea of what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Vintage Fender bass string retainer size?

Hi guys, I'm curious about a small detail. Did the size and shape of vintage Fender bass string retainers change over the years? I've got a Pure Vintage reissue that's different than my actual vintage 1972 Fender retainer. The Pure Vintage has a top disc diameter of 5/8" and is about a 1/4"...

JBL or other for vintage Traynor YS-15 1x15 cab

Interesting. Thanks very much for all the time and effort you put into this post! I really appreciate it! The Beta15a looks promising. BTW, the reason why I'm thinking of replacing the Marsland is that I believe it's only a 25 watt speaker. This one has a smaller alnico magnet than some of...

JBL or other for vintage Traynor YS-15 1x15 cab

OK, thanks. Any recommendation for a 15" Bass driver that is good in a sealed cab of the size i mentioned in the original post?

JBL or other for vintage Traynor YS-15 1x15 cab

Hi guys, I've got a 1967 Traynor YS-15 sealed 1x15 cabinet on the way. It currently has the stock Marsland driver in it. I'll be using it for bass, mainly with a 1965 Traynor 50 watt YBA-1 head. I could also use my 1965 Vox AC30 head for a different sound... Anyway, the exterior dimensions...

    Altec speaker for vintage B15N-C

Thanks very much! I bet the Altec would add a fair amount of weight to the rig. I can't seem to find any accurate weights listed anywhere about the weight of a B-15-N-C, with the stock CTS speaker. Does anyone know? (amp + cab, plus or minus the dolley)

    Altec speaker for vintage B15N-C

Hi guys, What are your thoughts on a vintage Altec 418-8H speaker as a replacement for a 1964 Ampeg B15N-C? (Looks like the one pictured) Originally, it would have come with a CTS square magnet 15", correct? Thanks a lot.

    Mystery Jazz Bass body identification

Thanks again, guys! I appreciate your input. I was told it was a Fender body from the second owner, but have no proof. Btw, this is the pickguard that was on it when I bought it. It's a little more red than the Pure Vintage tort, and it's a 3 ply with only 10 holes. (Plus the tug bar and neck...

    Mystery Jazz Bass body identification

Thanks for the responses, guys! Fwiw, here's a couple of photos of the pickups and controls. I can only assume that they are factory parts. The pots are smaller than CTS versions, and are 500k and split shafts. The bridge pickup is about a 1/4" longer than the neck.

    Mystery Jazz Bass body identification

Are we all stumped about this one? :smug: The hole through the neck pocket should be one of the best clues, I'd imagine? Is there anything else I could measure or photograph that may help? Thanks.

    Mystery Jazz Bass body identification

Hi guys, Do you think this Jazz Bass body was made by Fender? It's got an unusual hole through the neck pocket. Poly 3 tone sunburst (on alder?) It's 1 5/8" thick, and Fender Pure Vintage parts fit on it. If it's not a Fender, then what do you think it might be? Thanks.

Accurate early 60s Jazz pickup set?

You make a good point... Fwiw, as a tone basis, my favorite Jazz Bass sounds were from John Paul Jones when he was using his '62 back in the late 60s and 1970s. Of course, amplification and the player are hugely significant factors, but of all the pickups made these days, are there some that...

Accurate early 60s Jazz pickup set?

Hi guys, I'm looking for recommendations for a new set of pickups that are period correct / accurate for a 1962/63 Jazz bass style. I assume Alnico II would be the correct magnet type, right? I see Seymour Duncan Antiquity Jazz pickups fit the bill, as I think the Fender Original Jazz Bass...

Fender road worn Jazz with 60s MIM neck?

Fender road worn Jazz with 60s MIM neck?

Update: I'm going to hold off on this one. I'd prefer to have an all original Jazzer. (The price on this one wasn't a bargain either) I might end up getting another model, as well. Although, my preference is still a Fender (or maybe Squire) that looks and sounds close to a sunburst 1962-64 Jazz...

Fender road worn Jazz with 60s MIM neck?

Thanks! Here's a front view, too. Is there much difference between this neck and an original RW? Btw, the pickups have been replaced with Fralin's. Any idea on an approximate value with all of these changes?

Fender road worn Jazz with 60s MIM neck?

Thanks. By the looks of it, it's a sunburst Road Worn body. It has the normal RW relic wear, and the RW stamp and the hole under the pickguard.

Fender road worn Jazz with 60s MIM neck?

Hi guys, First post here. I've been lurking for a while. ;) I'm interested in a used sunburst Road worn Jazz bass that's up for sale in my general area. However, when I looked up the serial number on the neck, it indicated a February 2010 MIM 3TS 60s jazz bass. Model # 0131800300 (MZ9569767)...
