Bartolini upgrade for Ibanez MK1-save your $$

The BH2 are genuinely awesome sounding pickups. I honestly wish they would make them available in more sizes.

Does anyone run their 5 string in A standard tuning and use it for everything?

I've played exclusively in A standard for well over a decade at this point. Standard tuning doesn't even sound good to my ears anymore because it lacks that extra booty the loosened strings give.

Troubleshoot buzz/hum with my MTD Kingston Super 4

Whenever you touch metal on the bass you are completing the ground circuit. Fully shield the electronics cavity with copper, ground the bridge wire to the copper, and you will no longer need to be what completes the circuit.

For anyone interested, here was Daniel's explanation as far as tonewood from when I started the process of having my 535 built. Now having experience with this build, I think the maple neck would'be been the better choice for me. What I was hoping would happen is that the "focus" he mentions...

My 535 is also ash/ash/BEM and anyone that knows me outside of here knows that I've had quite a journey with it . This may be a bit long winded, but I think it's worth it for anyone that buys this wood combo and isn't too keen on a taking a loss by selling it and trying to get into...

Well, anytime you add laminations you create compression and neutralize sympathetic resonances. No doubt that neck has a way more focused sound than a single piece of ash.

I had the opposite results with mine lol, but I think the woods have the most to do with this. As already stated here multiple times, the northern ash body/ash neck basses can sometimes result in an overabundance of "vintage-y" mids that cause the fundamentals to get lost (really just...

MT5T are reverse p splits, which is why they are not quite as dark/warm as the drop shoulders that were in that black Basic 5 (which are MT5C duals). Once Mike was out of the picture the part numbers on the back of the pickups stayed the same, but the sound of the pickups drastically changed...

    80's Tobias TCT Wiring/Specs

---UPDATE--- I have discovered the purpose behind the resistors on the mid pot on later TCT pres vs no resistors on the old Tobias TCT preamps. The pot values were different! The old Tobias pres used a 25K pot so there was no need to lower the overall value with resistors. The new TCT uses a 50k...

Pretty simple. I gave the stock electronics a shot out of respect to Mike & Daniel, but ultimately decided that they did not achieve what I prefer. I first installed a TCT with a different buffer (to accommodate for 9v only operation and the higher input sensitivity of the TCT), but the TCT...

Gibson bringing back Tobias Basses in 2023?

They won't/didn't. I know the electronics that went in these and they're nothing like what was in Mike's basses or even the short lived "slap tone" pre from the 90's Gibson ones.

You have 2 more traditional (no buffer) dual coil pickups mated to a more typical NTMB+F (not MTD custom) preamp. Each pickup has series/single/parallel mode via separate 3-way switches and when both pickups are in single coil mode the stock configuration is set to use the 2 most outer coils...

Hissing noise in active mode, no hiss when passive

I would not advise this with an active/passive setup, a 25k pot would kill the top end of the pickups because of treble bleeding to ground. On an active only setup (where the volume pot is isolated from the pickups), what you say is accurate. Where do you have the internal input trim set on the...

Tone is super objective, what is "better" depends on what you're after. I was wanting strong lows/low mids and a bitey treble. We borrowed from the Marcus Miller formula and also decided to go with an ash neck to gain a bit more focus since I wasn't going with a top (I really like trans finishes...

This seems to be a common result. The ash/ash/maple (from my experience) has this overabundance of midrange that just overpowers everything else. It makes it hard to get good fundamentals and also makes the attack extremely round sounding. I was expecting something more towards the Marcus Miller...

    Bartolini preamp stopped working

So that is an NS-TMB, which is The NSTMB circuit differs from the NTMB stuff in that it uses a +9-9 switching power supply. You can easily tie a treble bleed pot off of your volume pot with your stock setup. The treble bleed pot itself will be setup just like a traditional tone pot and basically function like one as well, it just won't add that resonant bump while rolling the treble off.
  37. iplay5strings

Are you looking specifically for that more nasally resonant bump of the modern tone pot wiring, or are you just looking for another way to roll-off treble that doesn't also cut volume?

That doesn't seem right as what you're describing should be series wiring and very high output. Unless your p bass pickups are just super hot.

Bartolini TCT Preamp wiring harness...not prewired

As far as I know, all you will get is the preamp module. Keep in mind that the TCT is a treble boost/mid cut/bass boost circuit in it's basic form, but you can add a mid module to gain mid boost as well. The biggest thing will be getting all the ground and jumper wires correct. The TCT is a very...
