Über-Jay V Spalted Maple

What do you use for the black spacers, between laminates? Still new to this and trying to track down where to get half the stuff.

All the veneers I've seen have either been massive or completely overpriced, or simply too small. I'm getting frustrated.

The accent lines between top/body and neck lams are black veneers. If instead you are referring to the thicker one at the back, that's one ebony laminate set.

Yes, unfortunately veneers are quite expensive.

That neck looks amazing! Can't wait to see final assembly.

Thank you :)

It's so... beautiful...

Thank you Dave.

On a separate note, I am starting two new builds. In fact one has just started and I have uploaded pictures on the Ü-J Facebook page. The other one will kick off too by Monday.

I really enjoy sharing the WIP with you guys. I draw incredible inspiration and energy from your feedback.

Thank you so very much for being so kind and supportive.

Thank you ibateur :)

Today was fretting day. It still needs some minor cosmetic touch ups, other than that it's done.

I have recently purchased this little accessory from Stewmac. It seems quite handy. One doesn't have to tape the fingerboard to protect the wood. Anyone's using it?

The body is ready so tomorrow I'm going to assemble the bass, cut the nut and string it :bassist: and plug it.

BTW, I have started a new build on TB. Those who are interested will find it here

I thought of posting the ongoing custom graphite neck build too on TB. But with three threads going on right now I think I'll wait a bit. Those who are interested will find pictures here

Thank you all.

I've been thinking of purchasing those little guards myself. Do you think they are worth it? Fabulous work as usual!

Hey Zuma, Thank you so much :)

I have only just started using those. So far so good. But i will have to get used to them before I know for sure. I guess it makes sense if you do a lot of fret work. Taping the fingerboard is kinda boring ;)

And finally, it all starts coming together....

Electronics cavity.

And the body fully assembled :)

I only have to swap the last two pots around, as they are not in the right order.

The Hipshot looks quite massive. I have replaced the Phillips screws to adjust intonation with Allen screws. They are the same size as the p-ups' so one can use the same Allen key to adjust both. One less tool in the gig bag :)

The edge of the neck pocket is lined with a thin layer of CA. That's where the lacquer coats end, and I feel better knowing that the edges are sealed.

On Monday I should be able to assemble the neck, cut the nut, string it... :bassist:

It's painted black to make it tougher to reverse-engineer the circuit, I imagine.

;) although I suspect the official explanation would be - to seal the components... LOL

So, what were my last famous words? oh yes....

"On Monday I should be able to assemble the neck, cut the nut, string it..." That was last Sunday :D

Fast forward ... Thursday....

Fret dressing is basically done, to 0000 steel wool. Next is assemble, string it and check for imperfections, buzzing frets etc. When that too is done, I'll take care of them frets and FB one last time ;)

Tomorrow I will start a new round of spraying - the Ü-M is first on the list. And I should start making sawdust with the Funk Machine :D

That already sounds like a pretty busy day and I have to allocate my time wisely. But with this dude getting close to testing time....oh boy.... massive distraction :bassist:
