1/4" Output limiter

Hi guys.

I've got an AKG wireless system that my bass output is too hot for. It clips constantly even with the gain on the wireless transmitter turned all the way down. Is there any kind of 1/4" female to male plug that can drop the signal a little bit?

If one doesn't exist, any idea on what size resistor I'd need to add to between the bass and wireless to cut it down some?

Standard pups on a Spector legend, EMG with the tone pump jr. active preamp. I've turned the volumes down about 50% and it doesn't make any difference. More than that and the tone starts to change quite a bit. I like how it sounds when it's cabled with the pots at 100%, so I don't want to change the character of the sound just to fit when I'm using wireless.

is this a cheap AKG, or is it busted? you shouldn't have to throttle back just to keep your wireless from clipping.

do you have the EQ knobs on the bass dimed? that causes its own problems, but any wireless worth a damn should still be able to take it.

anyway yeah, a pad can be made up in a little cable jumper, or even in the cable to the wireless itself. 25k pots are the normal value to turn down active signals, and off the top of my head i'm guessing that a 25k audio pot turned down to about "7" would tame your signal a bit without killing it.

that equates to about a 12k resistor in series with the hot and a 12k resistor between hot and ground.

Does the Tone Pump preamp have a trimpot? If so, turn down the gain. It's probably maxed.

Sounds like you want a pad, not a limiter.

According to Spector, after 2008 the Tone Pump Jr has a trimpot to adjust output level..

Thanks for the comments folks! I bought this bass new this year, I wonder where the trimpot is... Possibly in the back, I'll have to take the cover off and look.

Here's the info on the internal gain trimpot in my Fender FWG1010 wireless, made by AKG.

It's an AKG PT 40 Mini Pro. There is a trim pot in it, but it's all the way down and still clips.

I think I'm going to have to give up on it and find something else.

an $85 wireless?

no wonder it's sucking.

the cheapest "non-suck" wireless out there is gonna be a line 6 relay G30.
