Double Bass 1/4 size strings

I’m on the lookout for an inexpensive set of used 1/4 size double bass strings. Trying an experiment and don’t need to spend the money on a new set. I browsed through the classifieds and found nothing, but I thought I’d check here to see if anyone has an old set around. Thank you.

I have tried several brands of 1/4 size strings. Corelli, Spiros, Obligatos, helicores.I used them on a ply 1/4, a Takamine B10, a Kramer ABG, and a Chennell Arco. They all seemed rather stiff for these instruments. But I recently bought a set of Presto Balance 1/4, and the suit me better than the aforementioned brands, as they are more flexible with smaller gauges, so the thinner top of the Chennell currently strung with them is not overburdened by string pressure. They’re not as bright as spiros , but they bow well, and pizz well. Also cost around $100, but have to be ordered from an European vendor. Presto Balance

When you used the double bass strings on the ABG, how did you install them? Were they pin bridges, and if so, how did the ball ends fit in the bridge? What about the silk winding?

None of the instruments had a pin bridge. But in the case of the Washburn, I cut down a cello bridge and attached it to the strap knob with tailgut wire. I would trim the silks, or just let them dangle in loops around the tuner roller and headstock.
