1 Fender or 10 SX's??

What you want and what it IS are two different questions.

Anyway how you are so sure that one mark is the best for you? And there is variety even in the same series from the same manufacturer. How resolve that?

Buy a used American and 2 SXs. Problem solved

SX is an entry level cheap bass, that for the most part has terrible quality control, but what do you expect for around $150. I own a 08' MIA Fender Jazz and I'll be the first to tell you that the quality and sound of this bass is second to none. Monstrous tone, articulate, flawless craftsmanship - 10 SX's wouldn't even come close to this bass. I'm a professional gigging bassist so I haven't got time for cheap @#%* basses. If I were to own any SX it would be a 5 string Fretless Jazz copy just to mess around on for fun maybe play it on 2-3 songs with my band, but that's it. I've got a Squier FVM Fretless to do that job and I'm having all kinds of upgrades done to it, so I can only imagine what kind of upgrades I'd have to do to the SX. Bottomline is their cheap, inexpensive entry level basses.

I'll keep one of each.

I can use my lightly modded SX inerchangably with my new American Standard Precision, or my Pre CBS Precision.

All three of them play and sound great, and can stand in for eachother with no changes in eq.

If I had to make a choice, I'd still take one really good Fender over 10 of anything else. SX, Sadowsky etc. but after 3 solid years of gigging my SX, I have ZERO complaints.
