1 week clean !

That's just why recent studies have shown that it's:

A GREAT antioxidant, the most powerful one you're likely to find in the grocery store...

and

That it increases alertness and IQ in test subjects.

That may be true. Studies show many things about many thin gs really, but truth is that there is also small amounts of poison in coffee. And if you drink alot of coffee, you get some amounts of poison inside of you.

Awesome man!!! I did the same thing like 5 years ago and It really works!!!! (I've gone from 240 to 180 over a 2-3 year period and kept that way)

Btw I have an occasional soda every now an again but no more than one or two every month. I'm very addicted to Iced Tea and expresso though, but I don't put any real sugar in either so that makes it okay to me.

That's great MM...incidently, soda's have been the hardest thing for me to give up. I usually do good for a while, then I order one at a restaurant thinking it'll only be just one. Then I'm back where I started. Now I know how smokers feel.

BTW, for my new year's resolution, I'm giving up self denial.

There's small amount of bad stuff in beer too, but that doesn't seem to bother you. So you like beer, and you don't like coffee. Hooray for you, but try to keep from saying stupid stuff about a beverage just because you don't like that particular beverage. It's just wrong.

Awesome Major! I'm also trying to quit the sodas. I was addicted to one of the worst (Mello Yello) for quite some time. Actually, it was my first bass teacher, at my first bass lesson...so that'd make it about 4 years. I needed to lose some weight though, so I decided that one easy thing would be to cut all the empty calories from soda.

Peace
Drake

Wow, think you misunderstood my purpose there.

Thing is that many of the ordinary things we eat have small amounts of dangerous substances.

Beer is not a "good" beverage, and if I wanted to become more healthy I should probably quit that aswell.

My purpose was not to say "stupid stuff" about coffee. I apologize for that

The compounds in coffee that are toxic, are only so in *very* large quantities. You would have to drink a *lot* of coffee...an insane, freak-show amount of coffee...in order to suffer ill effects.

I know that in people with digestive problems, the acids in coffee can aggravate that. But it is otherwise no more harmful than beer or soda.

Sorry to hear about that :/

Have a friend thats like that. She eats waaaay to much salt and drink only diet soda because she thinks that better.. I beg her all the time to quit/do less of it but she just waves off my arguments because she is so stubborn :/

Yeah...its hard to watch someone you care about just ignore the simple things they could do to improve their health.

Must be the way my non-smoking friends feel when they see me light up!

Another good thing about not drinking soda...I love to have a cig and a Pepsi. They taste good together. No Pepsi...one less reason to light up.

I gave up anything carbonated a little over a year ago for health and athletic reasons. Drinking soda before any long distance cycling race (or any race really) will absolutely kill your preformance. I feel much healther now that I'm drinking water.

Another athletic reason to not drink anything carbonated...

The carbonation inhibits your bones' ability to absorb calcium. I learned this from a nutritionist, when I had a broken leg that was not healing. I cut out soda right away and completely, and within the month, my leg was nearly healed. That woman saved me from bone graft surgery!

Smashing Good Fun ! :hyper: :D

Smashing!!! {{{smiles blindingly...}}}

LOL!!!

When I told my trainer that the diet on this new program is too spartan for me, she laughed. "Cherie, I know you're my Texas biscuits-n-sausage-gravy girl. Tell you what. If you drink the required water, and you eat the veggies from your "unlimited veggies" list with each and every meal, and you only have beer at your gigs, then I'll cut you some slack. But you have to show progress!"

Then she told the nutritionist..."Cherie wants gravy on everything."

The big joke at the gym now is, "Put gravy on it!" LOL!

Edited to say that Paul Newman has a very fine low-fat sesame ginger dressing for raw veggies and salads. Very, very fine!

Major Metal, you sir, are a better man than I.

I never got the coffee habit, and don't like tea, but I drink diet soda from dawn to dusk. Caffine is a true adiction. I crave it as soon as I get up in the morning.

I nearly never drink alcohol, maybe 2 or 3 mixed drinks a year, if that, never smoked cigarettes, and only have the odd cigar maybe once a month, so no adictions there, but the sodas, no way I could stop that.

Good luck to you in the new year with the soda-cold turkey and gym, and good work.

Probably less. Like I said, remarkably enough, the most recent wave of studies on coffee have nearly all shown it to be surprisingly GOOD for you. Me? I can't take a morning crap without it. Anything else is essentially a moot point beyond that...
