And that could certainly be a definition of "best." That's the thing, we will all have our own thoughts and beliefs about what "best" means!


Fender Precision (split coil humbucker) -- Yes, the most recorded bass of all time, because it sounds and plays great -- Leo got it right!
Fender Jazz -- Second most recorded bass of all time, and more versitle than the Precision -- Leo got it right again!
Musicman Stingray -- First mass produced, affordable active bass -- Wow, Leo got it right again!
Alembic Series I -- Culmination of the evolution of first active bass guitar -- truly revolutionary.
Spector NS -- first modern widely available super Fender inspired bass, and damn near replaced the Precision in the 1980s as the most popular bass around.
Steinberger XL -- First bass to use composite graphite as a construction material, and radical design -- along with the Spector NS, very popular in the 1980s
EB Stingray 5 -- First great Fender style five string and still a standard of the industry.
Fender Precision (single coil) -- First widely available and usable electric bass guitar -- Leo got it pretty close!
Ric 4001/4003 -- Hey I just like these, what can I say.
Everything else.

I have no personal favorites, never thought about it, but I like almost everything I see, and I like most thing I play :D (I would never buy most of the basses on the list above though, strange, don't like most of them AT ALL!)
