10 song audition

I've been asked to choose 10 songs from this list to audition for an Ozzy/sabbath tribute. I politely asked the BL "why ten?" His response was "to fill the 2hr rehearsal studio spot" So im assuming I will be the only one auditioning...?
I have been given all the time I need to prepare, he basically said "learn the stuff and let me know". That was last week and I would say I have 4 or 5 "ready" so I called him today and set the date for thurs next week....fingers crossed.

Which 10 would you pick?

I don’t know
Crazy train
NIB
Paranoid
Children of the grave
Symptom of the universe
Lightning strikes
Bark at the moon
I don’t wanna stop
Sweet leaf
Fairies wear boots
Black Sabbath
Into the void
Electric funeral
Iron man
You can’t kill rock n roll
Suicide solution
Steal away the night

If it's a tribute, I'd think NIB is a first choice to make as a bass player. Crazy Train since it's the most popular Ozzy, and I'd lean toward Sabbath tunes since your audience will likely like Sabbath at least as much as anything Ozzy did.

Personally, I also like stuff from the Randy Rhoads era for Ozzy, especially:
I Don't Know (live version is great) -- and there's a bass lick to nail.
Bark at the Moon (EDIT: This was after Randy was gone)

That would also tell me if this tribute can pull it off. If I really wanted this, I'd learn them all...they wouldn't be asking you to audition anything they don't intend to be in a set list.

I picked all sabbath stuff and crazy train lol ...my picks:

NIB
Into the void
Electric funeral
Paraniod
Stmptom of the universe
Sweet Leaf
Black Sabbath
Paranoid
Iron man
Children of the grave

Do they have a website of Facebook page? If so, go on it and take a look at their recordings and/or videos. That will give you an idea if there are songs they dig playing. Remember, you are there to excite them, not yourself, if you want the gig.

Sabbath rules, anything from them is a winner, except Rock and Roll Doctor, not too keen on that one, but I digress...the person who told you to learn 10 songs to fill his time slot is an @SS...you are investing your time to learn an hours worth of music to cover his costs because he couldn't plan the auditions better...this is a sign of things to come, do what you wish but keep your eyes open. Good luck and Rock on.

Learning all/most of the songs would most likely ensure you have the gig.

Worked for me, I was asked to learn 1-2 songs from a band's album for an audition. When I showed up knowing the whole album they canceled the remaining auditions.

I played all these songs (except "You can’t kill rock n roll" and "I don’t wanna stop") years ago (read pre-internet) and the bass can be hard to hear in the mix. Geezer Butler liked his bass sound on the "muddy/dark" side. Sabbath and Ozzy are very guitar/voice oriented (even if some of those bass lines are amazing); keep that in mind.

Good luck with the audition. I'll apply if you don't get it.:roflmao:

(No I won't. ;););))

Any ten plus, another eight of them.

Watsamaddawifu?

The way I see it, 2 hours is decent, if not short. More time to get to know the guys and chat some. Bring some free booze, let them have at it and see who gets wasted 1st, you staying sober of course. Extra time for some out of boundry jamming would be nice just to see whats possible. I hate coming in after someones already auditioned and I don't like people waiting behind me as well. In those situations, the guys get burned out and can make hasty decisions.

My list:

Steal away the night
Fairies wear boots
I don’t know
Crazy train
Bark at the moon
NIB
Paranoid
Sweet leaf
Iron man
You can’t kill rock n roll

OT: This version is good.
