10 song audition

Neat, I wasn't aware that the BBs came in those gauges. I liked their standard set but wanted thicker, so I've been beating on the EB cobalt 55-110 rounds latelyMay I add that a few months ago I changed to DR Black Beauty strings, heaviest gauge available (.110 to .50).
Not only do they feel and sound fantastic...Geezer uses them.
How long have these other guys been doing this and/or playing together?

The band is new, no gigs yet. The BL (guitar) said he saw the singer do an Ozzy cover somewhere and was just blown away. They exchanged info and started recruiting the other members. According to him the drummer kills it also but I guess the bass player never gelled with them.
Wow, knowing that I'd learn as much material as I could. You seem like a good guy and even if there are shortcomings in your playing, they'll be like, "Hey, he's a decent dude and knows almost all the songs already." Slam dunk. Bands hate looking for members. Auditions suck for all parties. Give them a reason to end auditions and get the band rolling.
I like sabbath and Ozzy, but 10 songs for a possible spot is silly. 3-5 is reasonable. I would be pretty annoyed spending my time learning all 10 songs if I didn’t get the spot.
Agreed, if I didnt love the material I would probably feel the same way. Now its a good "excuse" to learn it.
Think about this. Things are cooking along nicely with you and the guys. You click. Every song you play with them excites them more. You breeze through five songs in 30 minutes, having a great time, but then have to stop 'cause you only worked up 3-5 songs? Downer, man. Strips away most of the good vibes. Seen it.

If I wanted in the band I'd learn as many songs as possible....and if I didn't get the position then at least I learned a bunch more songs.
I tried out for a Tom Petty tribute band a year or so ago. They auditioned 9 or 10 people and although I didn't get the position I was later told by the keyboard player (I'm in another band with him) that in the band discussion it came down to me and 1 other guy. The other guy was a better player but I beat out other guys who were better but less prepared. I showed up a week after being asked to learn 3 or 4 songs knowing 15 songs. That told them that I could and would do my homework.
That's how you show them you are team player.
(A) Learn them all, and make sure you are solid on them. This was a gig I had two years ago. The artist told me to learn these 3 songs, I went in and destroyed all 3 on the first time through, I could tell they were happy, so then I said "any chance we can try ....I really like that one, it's a blast to play", and then they were really pumped and asked what else I knew from them and I said, "All of them". The singer and guitarist looked at each other and said "So you want to be in the band or what?".
(B) If you don't do all of them, I would check their social media and see which songs they have posted and just to double check if they are playing it in the same key as the recordings you listened to to lol.
(C) Pick the ones that pump you up the most and you already know how they kinda go. This will make it easier to learn plus your enthusiasm will show in the tryout.

Great advice, thanks! I made sure to ask about tunings right away and the BL said they stay true to the albums. Some standard some C# etc...He even offered to do it all in standard or D or Eb, whatever I was comfortable with. Of course I said I would like to follow them and do it true to the recordings.
If they asked me to learn 3 I would have learned a bunch more on my own in an attempt to impress them. Since they asked for 10, IMO im already going above and beyond for a spot I may not even get. Id rather get those 10 super solid so I can rock out while playing them instead of try to do 18 and have any single one less than awesome.
This is the much preferred "under promise, over deliver" approach that wins every time!
I auditioned for a band and the guitarist, who is kind of a dumbass, sent me a list that had songs they didn't actually play anymore; included a few of their originals. There were about 20 tunes on the list and I learned 15, only two of which they didn't do. They asked what I wanted to play and when I called the original they didn't know the drummer says to the guitarist, "You asked the man to learn to learn a song we don't even play anymore? How embarrassing is that? The man shows up, knows our own song, and we can't even play it." At least they were aware enough to be embarrassed.
I later found out that they had some guys show up that only bothered to learn two or three songs.

I play in a band that auditioned a guitarist this evening. More than a month, and he couldn't/wouldn't learn 5 medium songs (Barracuda, Harder to Breathe, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Vertigo, More Than a Feeling).
Can you quantify how unprepared he was? Poor playing or just didn't know tbe songs?
