10 String Bass/next bass build idea

10 string
fretless
walnut body and neck
purpleheart fingerboard
34" scale
single pickup, probably EMG HZ soapbar
single volume control only

Got more done today. Today is the last day I had to work on it before I leave for Cancun on Thursday. When I get back, it'll be smooth sailing.

She was a rescue. She used to be a racer, but retired now. She spends most of the day napping. Greyhounds make awesome pets.

well, thats just a rough sketch for now. i kinda just threw that on to see what it would look like.

i was just looking at your 8 string. i get what you're saying. did you use any templates for the tuner layout?

No templates, just careful measuring from the centerline.

Actually, I think what I really prefer are symmetrical peghead layouts with symmetrical bodies, and asymmetrical with asymmetrical. I just realized that...

ctmullins, i just had a look at your 5 string build and i noticed you are using 4 string MM pickups. i have 2 carvin MM style pickups that are the same thing, 4 string pickups. in you experience/opinion, do you think that one would work for this 10 string project? i was going to get an EMG HZ soapbar for this, but if this will work, i'll gladly save myself some $$.

ctmullins, i just had a look at your 5 string build and i noticed you are using 4 string MM pickups. i have 2 carvin MM style pickups that are the same thing, 4 string pickups. in you experience/opinion, do you think that one would work for this 10 string project? i was going to get an EMG HZ soapbar for this, but if this will work, i'll gladly save myself some $$.

Dunno. My actual experience is limited to about four minutes of playing my five with the pickup temporarily connected. I can't offer any real advice until my five is finished, and I've been playing on it for at least a week. But, as mentioned in my thread, my initial testing was completely positive!

it's going to be some time before i get to the pickup part of this project, i might run with this idea. will you be posting some audio/video clips once your 5 is done?
