The plan for now is to play it standing with a strap, but I will probably use a small endpin for sitting and playing, the body shape is unconducive to playing sitting down like a standard abg

Neck dive was never an issue I was worried about, Now I just have to find a strap wide enough that doesn't look out of place on it.
So the steel that the wheel barrow is made of is a lot tougher then I expected, I think I've gone through 3 quarter inch drill bits (yes I used oil) trying to drill the holes to attach the top and I haven't had much time to work on it this week so no real progress. I also got an idea for what I'm going to build next but that's not going to be for a while. I still haven't found a strap for it, does anybody know of a wide (3-4") black cotton strap that doesn't cost a lot so I don't feel bad when I distress it, pre distressed is also good.
So cameras been on the Fritz and I 've been busy with school so I haven't made a whole lot of progress.
Drilled the tray, drilled the top, bolted it to the tray, sanded the sides with a belt sander, drilled the soundholes, and then disassembled so I could start laying out the bracing.

Hey Will, I'm doing a build using a G&L neck too, and it seems that the tuning machine holes don't fit either the 12mm or the 17mm shaft machines that I have. Could you dig up the spec on what you bought? You wrote "cheap tuners from Amazon" and it looks like you have a left handed neck. I'll probably just order the right handed equivalent and save the other set for a different build.

It's a 1/2" hole I think, to big for the small type and to small for the fender type, seems to be common on Chinese bass necks the kit bass I assembled had the same problem. I drilled them out to standard fender size, these are the ones I got,

Other then the mounting screws they seem ok, and if for future reference you need some for a 4L or 2R2L, or a five string you can disassemble them and flip the key to the other side, that's what I did.

Thanks. I might just plug them and re-drill but I don't have a lathe to make the plugs the right diameter. 5/8" dowel is too small, 3/4" is too big. Maybe I can chuck the 3/4" dowel in the drill press and sand it down.
I had the issue with the hole size. I don't really have any tools whatsoever, but found a way to drill them out.

So I haven't forgotten about this project, I started practicing with a new band, and have spent my time learning the songs, and I am buying an amp this Friday because my current amp just isn't cutting it so my money is tied up for a while. I also have to figure out how I'm going to attach the neck. I am going to finish this project before August.
No progress yet, but I now have a router that I can use and I'm going to go for a set neck, plan to be moving forward with this project in two weeks, as I have a week long gig next week.
What I have left to do is:
-route the neck pocket
-glue neck in
-cut the main stringer to final shape
-glue bracing on
- attach tail piece
-do final setting and shaping of bridge
- finish cutting nut slots
-test weight, and (likely) reduce weight
-apply finish
-final setup
I actually have a question about gluing the bracing, I won't be able to clamp due to the size will epoxy be ok? I have a couple steel plates I could put on top of it.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone pictures. I got a good amount done on it . I cut the notch in the main stringer that the top slides into with a table saw, a cut the excess wood from the stringer with a sawzall. bolted the stringer to the tray, cut the bridge side down to level with the top of the tray, I ran into the bolts that are holding it to the tray so it took a while to cut it with a wood blade in a saw zall, I cut the notch in the top with a jig saw and slid/hammered the top top into the slots on the stringer, I bolted top down again, and attached the tailpeice. In other news I found material for a strap you can see it in the picture showing the heatshrink on the tail peice, its an old steering wheel wrap, purchased for a car that was sold before I was born. I also found the mascot for this build, you'll see why when I finish it.
IT'S DONE

Dang it you guys you might just convince me to paint it glow green and get a heavy set of orange NEONs, the standard labella white nylon tapes I got on from Bass strings online, (love that place, I got a D standard set of Green DR Neons for a double P and a heavy balanced set of Daddario chromes for my PJ as well) that I have on It now sound good, but I think I could get some more volume out of it with higher tension strings, the top doesn't look like it's having any trouble with the pressure. It already is much louder then any ABG I tried at GC, I also think it will sit better with acoustic guitars since it has much more of the fundamental then any ABG I tried at GC.
