The down side of using epoxy as a grain filler is that it's really thick, and then you have to spend an hour filing back out the pickup routs. I really should have checked that before I started painting.

I dinged that little spot right below the neck pickup in the process, but at least they fit again now. Tomorrow the plan is to start shielding everything and mount the pickups. And continue the search for the tuner screw.

edited to add: By the way, Leo came up with a million great ideas. The jazz shaped pickup was not one of them.

Don't worry, you'll find that screw... as soon as you replace it (put a strong magnet in a baggie and sweep the room, if it's there maybe you'll find it.)

I basically moved everything in that area yesterday and picked up what seemed like a million screws, washers, nuts, and bolts. I'm still holding on to the hope that I'll find it. Worst case scenario is I'll use a brass screw I have that'll fit. Unless I can find a silver screw that is of similar size.

It has been long enough that it might have migrated via the soles of your or someone else's shoes by now.

Yes, that is how it's done. 4 individual correctly placed holes in different spacings for each pu and the narrow rectangular rout in 2 different lengths with tight corners. A soap-bar type is one rectangle.

Yes, 8 times the work for the same end result.

Not a lot of extra room. The trade off when there's no pickguard or control panel cavity.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I have a million of them :P

That's one of the jack plate mounting screws. It was stuck in the jack plate until I started futzing with it. I actually do have a tray with a bunch of small parts in it. Somewhere...

I had to do a google search for "ramkin bowl". Thanks, that's actually a good idea.

Funny about the tuner screws. When I mounted the tuners on the headstock originally, I specifically remember putting the screws in a little plastic baggy and putting them back in the box with all the other parts. When I took that baggie back out just the other day, there were only three in there. I was sure there were four when I put them away. Oh well, perhaps it will turn up eventually. I likely won't need it for another day or two, so there's still hope.
