You will be adding the 'dash' lines on the axe body and the X on the hs yes?

Yikes, thanks for reminding me. The gashes on the body. OK, that's next. The "X" will be on the truss rod cover. And I will make the truss rod cover in secret, and just show it when it's done :P

Painted the outline for the headstock. It's a lot easier to cut a straight line than an arc.

The "X" will be on the truss rod cover.

Scale the X to the cartoon even if it overlaps your (top secret) tr cover. It's the gestalt you are looking to achieve - to be recognized from a distance as authentic/correct/instantly recognizable.., like... "BAMM - it's Marceline!"

I did some preliminary measurements, and the "X" should fit on the truss rod cover, depending on which drawing to which it's compared.

I painted the gashes this afternoon.

Another coat and I should be able to mask the fingerboard, and lay on a few coats of clear, assuming I have enough left over from the acoustic build.

I wasn't too happy with the way the top two gashes came out.

It looks like some paint leached under the blue tape. So I thought I'd try to fix that a little by making them slightly wider and attempt to cover that up.

Just one coat.

So I guess I'll start on the clear tomorrow.

A slight re-assessment on the paint costs - the bright red has most of the paint still in the can. I likely used about 50 cents worth. The deeper red has about half a cans worth left. I never added in the black, which I had on hand, and since I used so little, I'm not going to count it. The clear was purchased for another build, but I figure I'll use about half a can, assuming there's that much left in the can. So I'm going with about $4.00 in paint.
