105Q

i had one and to my understanding it's only on when you move the foot pedal. once it's with the pedal all the way back for a moment it disengages. i don't think it sucked tone much.

I guess it doesn't really suck tone in the way that a bypassed pedal might. It just stays permanently at the bass end of the sweep when it's left off. I just don't think it turns off at all. Still sounds great when I'm actually using it :hmm:

Something's wrong with your unit--it is NOT supposed to be like that (I have a 105q, as well). Check the back part of it and the spring to make sure nothing's blocking it. It really sounds to me like something is jammed and the treadle isn't going back all the way--maybe if you don't see any of it, push it hard on the back end a few times to see if it disengages.

Failing that, try getting it repaired, I doubt a repair for a problem like that would be much. The 105q is a great wah, don't give up on it yet!

I don't know about you guys, but the 2 i had DID suck the tone when not engaged. not to the point it was riduculous, but some of the sparkle was definitely gone on both. When I had one I used a gate pedal to break it out of the chain.

So.....the regular GCB lacked bass, and the 105 q had cool shaping, but was not trasnparent when in the chain. Well, neither was the gcb unless you put true bypass on it (I think).

regardless, I have been using a modded wah for about 2 years, and it rocks. here is a link to the mod description.

his latest round does have a low frq resonance swtich which is like the q switch on the 105Q, and a relative volume pot. true bypass is huge.

Sorry, but that 105q fired me up something fierce, I have no idea why true bypass is not standard thing from JD.

My 105Q sounds really good, has no issues and I can not hear any tone suck at all when the pedal is off. I have used a looper to compare the direct signal to the signal with the wah in the chain but not engaged, and I could not hear a hint of difference. I am very impressed with this wah and use it all the time.

I'd say what I heard as being 'sucked out, was high end. If you got a nice jazz with new steels, put it through your amp and get the tone so its real bright, without having the wah in your chain. The slap and pop for a bit. then put it in the chain, and see if you get exactly the same tone.

i did it a little differently, but I used my Korg PX3B and ran it into my computer to make the comparison. Its not huge but it was there.

But, then again, I have been known to be on crack. So any of you owners, do this. Take the battery out, and then plug it up. If you get the same sound, good stuff and I am wrong. Otherwise, there is active circuitry it is going through. and that will have, if nothing else but infitessimal, a difference.
