12 year old know it all!...Not!

let me see ... more donuts = perfect pitch ... i'm still working on that .. !!

i do think parents should help/insist their children eat healthy , exercise and maintain a healthy weight ... parents usually do the grocery shopping !? but that point doesn't really relate to being told your out of tune!

things being out of tune drives me nuts ... i was playing piano in front of thousands at age 12 .. know it all , not yet ... not ever

my response to the bass tuning would have been ... " thanks , i like it this way "

Everything has to do with it to one degree or another. Weight of a person is a contributing factor to the story. And the word "Jethro" causes me to infer a few things as well.

To be fair to the kid, he may have been a nice kid but just committing a social faux pas. He was young and probably excited about his first lesson.

You honestly don't see the slightest hint of prejudice here? Those have zero relevance to the story aside from pointing out the OP has issues with overweight people and enjoys body shaming.

As far as 12-year-old know-it-all goes, that is to be expected. I was just lamenting with a friend last night about how I missed the time when I was a teenager, I knew everything by the time I was 17!

I honestly hope this is a troll post but this wouldn't be the first time we got an internet tough guy who feels better about talking down to people. The fact it is a child is just embarrassing.

I've run a lot of races over the years (5K, etc.) and am by no means a great runner, but I never come in last either. In almost every race I've run, invariably, as I get within about 50 yards of the finish line, some 10 or 12 year old kid pulls up along side and then starts to get ahead of me dashing for the finish line. I always have the same thought: "Hmmm, if I do nothing someone's gonna say 'look at that kid beating that geezer,' but if I try to pick up the pace and beat the kid someone's gonna say 'Look at that pitiful adult whose self esteem is so bad he feels the need to beat a child across the finish line.'" I always let the kid win, because you know why? It doesn't matter.

I remember my 12-year-old self trying to be "cool" to older musicians, saying crap that probably didn't make the most sense. Maybe the dude doesn't have any friends that are actually into music (rare these days with all the easily accessible tech/ video games). Maybe you broke a young dude's heart by being a know-it-all duckhead? Who knows. There's not really enough information here for an honest evaluation.

So I was in my local GC last week just to kill some time so I pick up a Curbow bass(very light by the way) and plug into an amp and start to noodle. Now I'm 56 yrs old and have been told I don't look my age ok that's fine.(this is an important little fact). Here comes some fat kid around 12 years old and tells me I should tune that bass because "He's been told by his father that he has perfect pitch!"...

There's a guy next to me and he starts to laughing hysterically and I have a look on my face that my kids referred to as the "Everybody needs to haul a$$" look. So then the double for the fat kid in "GOONIES" has the nerve to plug his bass into a guitar amp and ask me how to turn it on! Now's my chance but do I take or act like a responsible adult? You may have guessed...I took it!

I proceed to tell "Jethro"that he has plugged into a guitar amp and if his "hearing" was that good he would've heard the reverb kick in when he powered it on. Now dad shows and ask young junior what's wrong. I spoke first I said the problem is he doesn't understand the hierarchy outside of his house because he just spoke to me as if I'm his age. Needless to say I didn't get an excuse me or apology so I understand why "Jethro" is so misguided. Just a lil rant on my part...I forgot to mention "Jethro" was there for his first guitar lesson...LOL
Hey man, you showed that little bastard who's boss! Way to go...no 12 year old will ever mess with you again...you rule preteen world!

ABSOLUTELY! Though I call it bias. I consider it healthy. I used to be in sales. What is called "Profiling" is a VERY useful and effective tool in all of life. It's not an end-all, be-all, but it gives you a head start on dealing with people.

And "fat people" is one of my pet peeves. It's nothing against them personally, but rather against our culture. When I was a kid, there may have been "a" fat kid in one of my classes. Have you looked around at our schools today? I've said, since I've moved to KY from Seattle, that any high school girl here that is height weight proportionate can pretty much pick who she wishes to be her boyfriend. They are the tiny minority.

This country has a serious obesity problem, and it's not just because of the food. No wonder we have a "health care crisis".

And then people try to do something about school meals being such poison, and parents act like they're teaching Satanism!

We have a "crisis" because people are not always able to afford it, not because we have bad health care.

And if you're going to judge ANYONE when it comes to a child's obesity, you had better start with the parents.

I used to be that precocious little knowitall turd who tried to impress everyone at a local music store and always said stupid crap and the grumpy old guys rolled their eyes at me. Nowadays I do it on TB.

Better for everyone, now you can't see all the eyes roll. :D

That's the thing. It's not the food. It's the lifestyle. And the REAL problem with the school lunch issue is where the edict is coming from and the total lack of authority that source has. School lunches are a local issue. Heck, school, itself is a local issue.
